Searched thoroughly, still have EGR?'s

OK, so from searching I now know what the EGR does, what to check for, and where it is located. However, I simply don't see a way to "push up on the bottom of it".

It is a brass-looking thing, shaped like a little UFO or something. There is also another thing that looks similar but smaller, right next to it.

Point is, I don't see where to push up on the egr. It is a solid piece. I do see a little "piston/diaphram" more towards the firewall, but I can BARELY even touch it, let alone see it. When I manually throttle the engine, the little piston/diaphram does pump up and down.

I am getting a code 32, EGR malfunction, and I need to fix my car ASAP because I just bought it and need to get it smogged! I'm getting desparate. Thanks.

Well the piston is on the inside, meaning you would have to take it off. Usually in repai manuals it shows a way to test it, by how much vacuum or something similar. Try picking up a FSM or chiltons/haynes. Id say get a FSM because its free.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply!

I actually have a shitty internet connection, I live in the country and believe it or not it is impossible for me to get high speed connection.

I was planning on heading over to my sister's house yesterday to DL the FSM, but when I got there the FSM for the 1991-94 240sx was not available for download.

One quick question: If I were to just say "screw it", and took the car to have it repaired, what would a typical cost be?

I know a couple good local mechanics pretty well. I know my throwout bearing is probably on the fritz too, so I kinda feel like just taking my car in and trying to get some kind of package deal on the 2.

Assuming they just replaced the EGR, hoses, and valving, what would a fair price be? *Edit* Also, a fair price for a T/O bearing replacement?

Ive seen an egr sell for anywhere form $50-$130. I dunno how much they go for on our cars, but it does get price when you go through a shop. Parts + labor gets exspensive. Its hard to judge the price because every mechanic charges differently. What they also do is say that you should replace this, that, this, and that, when you actually dont have to.

Business is business, mechanics are hit and miss.
