here's the deal, i got quotes from a few people on motors. there is a shop about 2 hours away that has CA's in stock for $2000 these are full clips. that sounds pretty good to me. but they want $3000 for an sr clip. i want the sr because of the large aftermarket and ease of finding replacement parts (compared to the CA). the prices for SR clips are usually about 2600-3000. just wondering what you all would do in my situation. thanks for the help.

I agree with ca18guy and $1000 is alot of money. The CA is a good motor but it really depends how far you plan to take your car. Yes the SR has way more parts in the Japanese aftermarket scene.
But most people will not take their cars to the level that they willl need these parts. HKS makes certain parts for the SR and not the CA. Racing Suction, FCON S and some other of the newer products. If you are just going to put the motor on and not get too serious with performance I'd say go with the CA. The extra 1k can go to mods.

But what is the deal with the CA, what about if you blow a headgasket, need a belt or break a bolt or something retarded? Are they harder than the SR for this kinda stuff, or is there some usdm donor car that you can get parts for them through?

The US nissan pulsar has a ca18de and the US S12 had a ca18et. So i'm sure there is some interchangability there. If you blow a head gasket i'd get a aftermarket one anyway though.

HKS Stopper Type Head Gasket
CA18DET 1.2 mm 8.5 comp 2301-RN043 CA18DET 1.6 mm 8.2 comp 2301-RN044 There is usually always an aftermarket solution. As far as timing belt if Nissan USA does not have a substitute then you order one from Japan in advance...you know you will be changing it sooner or later anyways.

Jun actually makes a limited number of parts for the CA too. That's better aftermarket than the KA.

this is what i am talking about, i mean what if i need an alternator or a water pump or something like that. i know the CA has a ton of potential as far as performance goes, and i love the fact that revving to 9000 rpms is a possibility. but its the little things that worry me. the SR has sites like srparts.com which caters to replacement of the little things. where would i get such things for the CA. Thanks for all the responses your input is greatly appreciated.
