VG30DETT into a 240SX?

I was just wondering if anyone has done this or this is even possible?
If so, what kind of results did you get or would you expect to get?
Thanks in advance.

Go over to Fresh Alloy's forums, then do a search in 240sx Advanced or Basic (I forget which) and look under the user name 300sx.

His car is badass.

it has been done, but to me, i don't think it would be worth all the effort. Did u want it for the power or the "different" factor?

There is video of a vg30dett swapped with a T67 single turbo.... Basically kinda useless because it spun the tires in all 4 gears..... Not all that great and no balance.

It doesn't screw up the wieght balance THAT much. It's a couple hundred pounds heavier, but you can compinsate some of that by getting carbon fiber/fiberglass hood, fenders, and a lighter aero bumper.

LOL wow, you wouldn't happen to have pics of that setup would you?

Well, I would say it's possible (with money), but someone just said the TT wouldn't work, so...

Correction a TT will work in an s14. It wont work well in an s13.
If a 510 can have a VG30dett so can any other car. It just is toooo much work, and modifying.

here ya go. the 300sx everyones been talking about.

I seen the car out down over 500 to the wheels and run in the low 11s. this exact swap in in the red s14 you see in the first pic. one of the cleanest swaps ive ever seen.

Yup, that's the 300sx I told people to go over to FA to search about.

Anywho, yeah that car is facking awesome. And it's so awesome cause he did all the fab work himself, from the turbo manifolds to the mounts.

And no, it shouldn't mess up the weight balance that much, because pretty much the entire motor sits behind the engine crossmember, so there really isn't any weight in the nose area, except for maybe the turbo or FMIC.

I'd definitely do this swap myself, if I could get my hands on a VG-DETT for cheap, and have access to a TIG welder, and if I knew how to weld.

its looks like theres more room in an s13 engine bay with a 300zx motor, then the 300zx has with its own motor.

the swap can be done, but if you are posting on zilvia to find out whether it CAN be done or not, (ie you didnt search for it first), then i very much doubt that it would be worthwhile for you to pull off. if youre still looking for it to be done... be prepared for at least $1000 in unexpected costs, plus being able to leave it in a garage for an extended period of time. maybe 3-6 months depending on how much you can work on it. plan on having a daily driver while your 240 is in the shop/garage, and you better have some friends with FAR more expertise than you willing to help out. if you STILL wanna do it, keep us posted on your progress.

sorry to sound like i was flaming, zilvia is starting to get to me.

if you want it strictly for the motor, buy a 300zxtt. if you want it to be different and spend countless hours fabbing and have the satisfaction of accomplishing it, go for it with a S14.

the 240 engine bay is no where near the size of a 300. i dont know this for a fact but look at the length of a 300 nose. its huge. those engines are all cleaned and reduced to there prime.no shrouds or other bull shit jumbling up the bay. a ka motor looks tiny in the 240(although the 240 bay is pretty big) when its cleaned up. shit i need to take a pic of mine. side draft carbs so no electronics. seems like theres nothing there haha.
btw you can get nearly ANY motor in a car w enough work as long as it will fit between the strut towers and even then if you really want it done you can get around that.
my opinion on the subject though: if you really wanted to go all out and swap in a vg, id say drop that idea and put the rb26dett. better platform. probly not much more either. whats a good vg30dett motor go for now-a-days? ive seen skyline front clips go for around 4. pluck the motor then sell the front clip. just a thought.

the stock tt set up was done in japan i saw it in an option video... cars gonna be too fast though. do you want this to be legal or not cus if you use a USDM motor you shouldnt have a problem legalizing it... but if you're like me and dont give a sh*t then for the same amount of money you could have a bad ass rb 25 which will be way better... i'm sorry but VG is not the best six cylinder nissan makes

Definitely is more room in the 240sx. Same basic chassis that they put a motor in that was an inline 6. 300zx's are evil to work on and the motors are so so so stupid heavy. If you disagree then whatevs! I like the vq30 swap more personally.

The thing is that a lot of the weight is in the tranny which sits near the middle of the car.

VG30DETT is a heavy sled in the world of import engines. It's about 175lbs heavier than a sr20det in the front and about another 35-40lbs heavier in the gearbox. While it may only be a 2% change in weight balance it's still going in the wrong direction. You can't pull that much out of front fenders, bodywork, and CF hood. There's not that much there to remove. If you did all the replacement work you might be 25lbs lighter with full carbon body parts.

just to clarify. the driftfactory car has a rb26, not a vg30. so the information driftfactory is giving is related to the rb26 in a s13. by the way, that is a sweet car driftfactory.
