ID my turbo please...

Here are 2 pics of it on the motor, hope it's enough to ID them otherwise I will get more detailed pics later.

Comparing the turbo to another blacktop sitting next to it at the shop when I bought the motor, the turbo itself looked physicaly bigger as did the wastegate actuator valve, which leads me to believe it's an upgrade. Although I've had other people tell me it's a stock turbo. I'm thinking the second pic will be the one that tells for sure. I don't know the difference in turbo inlet and outlet pipes between teh T28 and T25 turbos... hopefully someboyd out there has stared at one long enough to be able to tell. =)

Where there any physical differences in the turbos on s13 sr20's between the different years they produced this motor?

Can somebody tell me for sure what turbo this is?

thanks guys!

The one on the left is a S15 Spec-R T28, the one on the right a T25.

There is actually a thread on zilvia that has the physical differences between the s13, s14, and s15 silvia turbo's. I looked it up the other day, but couldn't tell you the link. A quick search might bring it up. As for the pics, there really isn't alot to go by.

No, no changes between S13 SR turbos.
Get a front shot detailing the writing on the compressor housing and we can tell you better. A side shot isn't much help.

Im pretty sure that turbo is a T-28. Im almost leaning towards a S15 turbo cuz of the way the intake neck and pressure side necks are tweaked.

ok i went and grabbed the S15 Spec-R (MT)turbine I have sitting in my storage to take a look. It does look similar.

If the writing on yours matches the one pictured up there, it's S15 Spec-R (MT). Otherwise, its either S15 Spec-R (AT) or S14.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but since it's about IDing turbos... could someone confirm that my turbo is a T28 from a GTi-R?

Yeah I was thinking that also bec the turbo inlet pipe is the same one listed for p2m's site under the t28 upgrade as a part needed for the upgrade from t25 to t28. That and I figured that secodn one would be the one to tell for sure, bec I didn't think the outlet pipe was tilted like that on a t25.

Another way to tell I tihnk might be to pull the 02 housing off and look for that divider wall next to the wastegate openning.

I'll try to get a better pic, of the turbo with the writing on it.

Thanks guys!

the serial number on the actuator is different than my s15 turbo from what i can see in your pictures....i believe the s14 and s15 turbos have different actuators

(i could be wrong though)

the inlet and outlet look s14/15...btw clean your intake pipe it's pretty dirty

cotbu - sorry I haven't spent enough of my life scrutinizing a part I can access in under 60 seconds to be able to tell the difference in a bad pic on the web.
If I'd seen the face of the compressor, or the exhaust outlet I could tell better. *shrug*

Coming from the guy who has yet to post something we don't already know. Nice attempt at posting what others have already said and using it to belittle others...

To all else, thanks for all the advice!
