Experience in changing key cylinder? and WTB!
Hey, keys got stolen, instead of spending $100 on a new key from a locksmith or whatever, anyone got any experience changing out the ignition cylinder on S13?
How hard was it and how involved do you have to get. I know there are a couple of wires soldered onto there, or is that part seperate? Didn't take a closer look when I had everything apart. Give me some tips? Or is it pretty straight forward and easy, just wanted to get some advice and whatnot before I take it apart. WTB: Key cylinder with matching key. I know there are a lot of people parting out cars. Will hit those threads up. Hopefully someone in the bay area can help me out, or know a good locksmith that won't burn a hole in the wallet. |

I already told u foo! go to a nissan dealer they will make u a key for ur car ! i did it a while back.
But if u wanna do it the HARD way its not that hard, wires soldered? uh nah just flat surface BOLTS, u need to take a drill to unbolt the cylinder from the steering column. Than replace the bolts with something u can screw on, but then good luck not getting ur car jacked, lol |

Your local auto parts store can get you a new set with new ignition and matching keys.
Think about it for a second. Why would you want to buy a used ignition with a key that somebody else may have a copy of? They can break in and start your car in seconds. It's not like the ignition is theft-proof anyway. A good thief can hot-wire your car in under 30 seconds. |

If a person goes thru the trouble to get in your car, I'm pretty sure it won't take much to steal the car. I hope you people have other means of locking and securing your car. I have an alarm, just want to be able to drive. |

To get the ignition off I made a slot in the head of the bolt and used a screw driver. When I put it back on I got new bolts from nissan and welded the breakoff pieces on so if i ever change it again it will be easy. The doors all you have to do is change the lock cylinder with the new set you get if you dont want to paint them.
