rust ahoy

so yeah i bought my car 32 days ago and the person i bought it from is very clever...he also happes to bemy family mechanic ( not mine i preffer to do my own repairs) but he painted the frame the same color as the underside of thecar so when i looked for rust i didnt see any....then last weekend when i swapped in my SR20 i looked closer when the engine was not in the compartment and i saw all the rust (ill get pix up asap) but the frame in the front is rusted through one 1/2 on the drivers side about 7 inches long, so what is there to do about this? i know its hard to give advice with out pictures but just some general things like do i replace that part of frame? or what ill get pix up when i find my camera

If it is your family mechanic talk to him and see if he wont refund you. If not tell your family not to go there no more. I actually would already done so, if he does these kinds of things to the car he sells, imagine the work he put into your family's car.

Bummer dude I paid $1000 for a completely rust free, clean title 240sx. I think anything worth doing is worth doing right. You should have looked over the car a little bit more before spending money on it...

If it comes down to it the car is made out of steel and it can always be repiared, so get some quotes for autobody shops or something...

Holy rust bucket, Batman!

It can be fixed but how much would probably be the kicker. I remember seeing someone have that part of the frame rail that you could buy and just cut out and replace. I think it was on here that I saw it.

that is a LOT of rust. It will cost someone a lot to repair that, and unless you just replace that whole section of frame, it will probably never be as strong as it originally was. you should probably stop installing the new motor, and get that rust taken care of. just my 2 cents

It's repairable, but the right way involves more work than you're willing to put in I bet.

I'll take some pics of a car I have on the lot tommorrow, your's is bad but this one is 20x worse. The frame is actually bent from the rust damage.

from what ive heard the frame rail is just the back bone of the whole system, and rusting like that wont hurt anything YET. however, u should get that fixed. how? take a grinder and take as much of the section off that has rust. u can either weld in a new piece yourself, or go to a welder. doing the frame rail should be relatively cheap. several hundred dollars at most. however.. can you take bigger/better pictures of the rust in the fenderwell? that shit isnt good/cheap to fix, unless once again.. it is a flat, simple piece to replace. you can however cut that rust out in the well, creat a template using cardboard as best you can, then cut a piece out of sheet metal that u can buy at home depot. get two, multilayer it, weld it together or rivet it and itll be just fine. more pix! then i can give u a better idea. oh yea, and the fuckhead should refund you atleast half the price of the car to cover expenses. poo. i wish i could on him. that ass. clean engine btw, i like it
