Tire Questions

How can you tell how wide of a tire you can fit on your rims ? The rims have 205/45r17 tires on them now and I would like to put possibly a 215....any help appreciated. Thanks.

you might want to tell US how wide your wheels are if you want us to tell YOU whether the tires will fit

otherwise try google, tire rack, or the tire manufacturer website. searching might help, or simply digging through some wheel/pic threads

I cant find a tape measure, but if I do will it be alright to measure the tire on the rim ? Or do I need to take a tire off a rim to find out better ? cause they are on my other 240 right now.

in the end, 10mm probably won't make a difference...but not knowing the width of your own wheels might be a sign of worse things to come

find out exactly what kind of rim you have and check the sizes they sell it in. By size I mean you have a 17' rim so the rim size will be 17x7.5, 17x8, 17x9 ect.
You could either ask the person you bought them from or check online for the EXACT rim

Well, being as how he has no idea what he is doing, chances are his wheel is no wider than 7 inches.

Becuase people who have no idea about wheel fitment seem to be attracted to high offset/narrow wheels.

If you want to put a 215 tire on your car, go ahead. You'll be fine.

Noliez.

its a 17x7, and they are different rims that I just got off a friend and couldnt get ahold of him and was looking for a quick answer instead of a bunch of smartass one's....I understand you guys arnt supposed to magically know what width MY rims are either...wasn't really sure what to search for....so how well do 215's fit on a 7" wide wheel, and will they rub ?

Well, if you read my prior post, I listed the size of YOUR tire setup.

And I stated that you would have no problems.

Ok?

Ok.

if you want a better response, post a better question.

While you're at it, throw away those wheels.

first of all, your question SUCKED- it was poorly worded and lacked essential information.

And you need to throw away the wheels because they have inferior inside clearance, they look UGLY, and they won't let you safely run any good sized rubber.
