I can't find any information on the web that's not in Japanese. What does the RP represent (or denote) in the RPS13? I'm starting to think that it denotes a SR20DET powered 180SX as opposed to a CA18 powered 180SX.

Am I right?

As an aside...which cars got the taillight center section with RPS13 written on it and which ones got 180SX?

So then an RPS13 is a fastback powered by a DET. I was close.

Building on that then...in Japan...a 180SX with an SR20DET would be a RPS13 and a 180SX powered by a CA18 would be...just a 180SX?

Basically...my question is this. When I see a Japanese 180SX, what does it mean when the center section says RPS13 and what does it mean when the center section says 180SX?

The "RPS13" center garnish was an accessory available through Nissan for the '96-'98 180SX. 180SX's left the factory with a "180SX" center garnish regardless of engine. In '96-'98 the factory center garnish was body color with a "180SX" sticker; All other years had the red reflective piece similar to the 240SX hatch.

When equipped with a CA18 there is no letter for engine in the chassis code. The CA18 180SX is coded "RS13".

Not necessarily a DET but an SR, they came with both SR20DEs and SR20DETs.

That isn't correct. The Silvia came with both turbo and NA versions of the SR and CA (89 -90). However the 180sx only came turbocharged first CA18DET then SR20DET.

The kouki 180SX was available in a Type-S model with the SR20DE.
