Power Steering Project

I think this is my first post here, anyway, im knee deep with my S13 project. A 90 with KA24DE in there. Well the bottom end was shot, thrown rod, cracked block, but the head was undamaged. I picked up a KAE for hella cheap and im in the process of putting the DE head on the E block. No small task i tell you.

Anyway, one of the major setbacks has been the power steering. The E block has no bosses on it for the DE PS pump bracket, and no room on the head for the E PS pump bracket. Since this is gonna be a dediacted track car, ive removed the AC and making a bracket to put the DE PS pump there.

To tidy things up a bit, ive decided to go with teflon lines SS braid hose with crimp on -6an fittings. The lines are the easy part, along with switching to an aftermarket frame rail cooler with -6an ends, i needed -6an ports on the PS pump and the steering rack to run the trick lines.

Well here you go, and its not a bolt in solution, some modifications needed to be made to the rack housing where the lines come in/out of it.

Another shot

Steering Rack fittings

Just to warn you, the PS system operates around 1200 psi, so you need adequate hose to do this, the teflon/ss braid style has 2500-3000 capacity so it should be more than enough.

Pretty cool eh?

That's pretty pimp. I'm not a KA guy so I didn't know that the DE head would match the E block. No mods needed?

Yeah, the head bolts up but a LOT of additional work is needed, looking back I wouldnt suggest this swap to anyone.

Youll have to machine the PS rack housing flat, I used an oring style -6an on one port (custom tool to do this) and the other was a standard fitting, dont remeber the pitch off the top of my head...the PS pump fitting is the same too...ill look it up later, the fittings are about $10-$15 each.

care to be more specific? what's the benefit? perhaps a write up?
