S13 cracked dash owners, I need your voice!!

Okay, I am helping a fellow member from another forum spread the word and hopefully get other to do the same. I am going to let him know I transfered his thread here so he can let the right people at Coverlay know and maybe they will see our interest and proceed with helping us out by making

From Thundachiken:

I found a company online recently that makes vacuum formed plastic dash covers for import & domestic vehicles. Which led me to this...

I had a promising conversation with a rep by the name of Frank, basically telling him the cracking problems of the S13 dash. As per our conversation, HE needs to see CONSISTENT demand for this product, as in the past car club demand will start out strong, then die out.
As a fellow 240 enthusiast, I am asking every S13 owner, cracked dash or not, to call & email Coverlay Manufacturing, INC. & demand this product be made!

Frank with Coverlay Manufacturing
4017 Hwy 67 N San Angelo, TX 76905
Toll Free: 1-800-633-7090
Fax: (325) 658-8885
Email: [email protected]
http://www.coverlaymfg.com/

Remember, this demand from us has to be consistent, always. If just one member can send an email, call & ask a day- this is a good start. Also, after calling & emailing them, please post here afterwards saying you did. Frank with Coverlay will be reading this!

Kevin

So yeah, everyone who has any interest, or even just wants to help out please email and let them know we have enough demand for the product.

Shawn

For around that selling price, you can pick an uncracked dash from the junk yard or a private seller.

Not a bad idea, but for $100 you could probably just get your dash rewrapped by an upholstery shop.

Or just buy a carpet dash cover...I think Justin @ Perf Nissan sells some? Pretty cheap too, like $50 bones?

$130 can get you an uncracked dash... not having to swap them would be cool. Not sure how well they'd fit. LOL @ the commercial...

None of this really matters to me, uncracked dash ftw!

Actaully, the price quoted by Frank with Coverlay was $103 retail, $77 wholesale.

Think of the pro's here-

1) No swapping out dashes, just glue down & instant new dash.

2) Lifetime warranty, resists sun damage better then OEM.

3) Completely revitalizes interior.

When you buy a used uncracked dash, you run the risk of that cracking down the road, don't ask me how I know that

The local pik a part wants $110 for a used dash, so this is cheaper for some folks.

I tottaly agree with thundachicken

i think most are missing the point that S13 dashes whether you get an uncracked one from Ebay or not still has the possiabilty of cracking--a new over lay or whatever it is may not be as brittle and possiably a better option. My uncracked dash was fine until last winter when a huge crack started to form, i have stopped it but it would be nice for an alternative option that was cost effective and this seems to be one of those options

Junk or ebay dashes are an option for those with black interiors
But for folks with brown interior we either swap colors or use a crappy ugly cover all.
How are these covers? vinyl wrapped plastic or just a hard vinyl cover with glue under?
I am very interested and even emailed these guys quite a while ago. Never herad from them since.

S13 dashes are very simple and do not have many bumps. If a cover were to be applied to a S13 dash, it may create lines that clash with the original simplicity of the interior, making it looks just about as OEM as a cupholder clamped onto an air vent. I'd like to see detailed pics of how this would look like on a S13 dash, fitment and color matching.

It's good to have options here regarding our dashes, one alternative may be better for someone else then the other.

These covers are vacuum formed plastic covers. They will cover the top of the dash & are held in place with glue, have a lifetime warranty- effectively makes your dash like new. What's not to like?

Obiously this product is for someone who cares about their car, IMO, this is the only way to go when repairing a cracked dash.

I'm spearheading this project, & as a fellow 240 enthusiast, I'm asking everyone as a community to come together, email & call Coverlay & demand this product.

Thanks for your support,
Kevin

P.S. Remember, this demand from us has to be consistent, don't let it die. Please post here after calling & emailing them- Coverlay will be reading this!!!

I think most of you are missing the point....just help and email them anyway....even if you dont want it...I'm sure there are 13234651435465 people out there that would and will in the future. How hard is it to send an email to help out some other 240sx enthusiasts? Hell, email them for the S13's even if you have a S14!

not too sure how far this would go since i dont really see people too worried about replacing thier dash boards on the 240sx... now 240z-280z, there might be a market for those..

Unless your talkin about dash caps?? my buddy has an aftermarket dash cap in his 82 supra and i couldnt tell that it was a cover..

If these could go for about $50, i think there will be a huge market. Esp since the s13 dashboard should be soo simple to make.

Choice between finding a soft vinyl dash in a junk car or buying a hard plastic cover for a cracked dash?

Junk car hands down. I bought a clean dash for my car a while ago and have since acquired a HUD dash for a friend. They aren't impossible to find, nor are they overly expensive. Plastic just seems cheap and cheesey. Maybe pictures would help your sell.

are these gonna completely cover the dash including halfway down the center consoul to the radio/din pocket right before the shifter as stock, or would there be a seam somewhere around the ac controls?

Thinking about simplicity here- Much easier to put this on then it is to replace a whole dash. Why replace it with a used dash when it will eventually crack again?

I know down here in Houston j/y's, I've yet to be lucky enough to find a good one.

I'm just looking for a community effort here, please support the development of a new product here. I know I'm not the only one who wants options.

Like I've said, I'm trying to get us more restoration options for our cars. Please post here after contacting Coverlay saying you did!

Sheazy, thanks for your support. BTW, what happened to your Buick Riv? I want a 71' soo bad.

Kevin

Pulling out a dash and putting in a new one takes about an hour. I'd rather cover my dash in suede than putting a generic cover on my car.

Ok, I think a few peeps are missing the point here. For those that don't want to pull a dash out, support THEM, & add your voice if you would to the list please.

why put a new dash in if its going to crack later

why buy a car you will probably wreck it

dash caps are good for old ass cars where you cant get a new dash without going to the dealer, but for s13? whack

he is talking about dash caps and they already make them for 240z-280z and sell a lot because those dashs were cracking even back in the 80's and they are impossible to find a uncracked one.
