300+WHP what clutch?

Hey I am going to be pushing around 300whp with my SR20det and I am wondering what some of you guys are running for clutchs? How they work on the street/Strip?.I am thinking about getting an ACT or Exedy stage 2 should be enough I think.

last event someone broke 2 ACT clutches, buti hate ACT andwould never buy one so i dont care. act sucks, imo. along w/ spec.

Am wondering this myself.

I was pretty much going to go with SPEC stage 2, or ACT xtreme PP + street disk, since I'm only looking at around 330 rwhp or so (S15 turbine, 740cc injectors, Greddy intake mani, HKS step 1 264 cams).

Currently running SPEC Stage 3, but it's the old style, and when I slip it sometimes, it squeals like my brake pads (Axxis Ultimate, will never buy again).

So RPS with max pressure plate + street disk is good for daily driving, 350+ rwhp, and clutch kicks?

I like the Spec clutchs to but I can find them around here so I am thinking that the Exedy stage 2 is what I am going to go for.I had a exedy in my old civic a few years ago and never had any problems.

Another vote for RPS. I've heard nothing but good things about them. I have yet to run one, but I have a 6 puck sprung hub RPS Max in the floor, waiting for my KAT build. We'll see soon enough

I use exedy stage 2 right now with stock turbo set at 8-12psi and some other mods. It's a little over kill right now but will be just right with new turbo.

RPS is a great clutch. ACT has worked for years in drag DSM's and SPEC is great to. all three will work great for you !

how good are these clutches (the exedy especially) for daily driving? (ie. harshness of engagement and pedal feel)

It takes some getting used to for sure, but after a week it was no different even in traffic.

Exedy stage 2:
pedal feels alittle harder than stock, but very streetable. I'm so use to it, i dont even notice how stiff it is. 20% stiffer than stock i would say.

The engagement is harsh but i've just broken mine in and it's getting alot better. I have to rev to 2k just to engauge it smoothly. Once it grabs, it will grab so keep the gas going. You'll get used to it in a week. I sound like a fu**** ricer just feathering my gas and clutch when i'm going through the drive-thru or parking my car. =S

My Spec stage 2 went out this past week. Wasn't doing anything crazy, but I was at a dead stop and slipping the clutch to build up boost. Afterward, I could smell an odor. Now I can't boost past 10 psi without slipping. Had Spec clutch for 2 years and 10,000 miles, mostly highway driving - no drag or drifting. Disappointed.

Forget ACT. It is all about exedy stage 2. I had the act Xtreme kit on my sr20det and it was stiff as shit. I now use the Act stage 2 thick 3 puck clutch with the springed hub. It is a little stiffer than stock but engages smooth and knocks your head back when you shift hard. I had it for 6 months and I drive 50 miles dialy with ease.

I've heard stories, and know way to many people that had problems to suggest an act clutch.

Right now I'm at about 300rwhp with a superior clutch. Commonly called an Illegal Garage clutch.

Pedal feel with it is about %35~ more solid than stock, but still streetable.

I had worked closely with act in the past.

Their SR Clutch is so STONGLY NOT RECOMENDED by me, that we are having a new clutch researched and designed by another company. There are huge flaws with the act. I will not say what they are.

Service problems i have seen personally.

Broken Throw Out bearing Slide. broken on repeated cars, wheather it be daily, track, grandma, a hole driving... i have seen them break on everything.

Broken Slave cylinder. Once again, only with act.

Torn, twisted and broken clutch pedal No pedal should feel as firm as the ACT Xtreme pressure plate. This Clutch cost us a race against easy street (redlighted).

Just dont do it. Stock w/ebay disc is recomended over this.
