Fusible link keeps blowing...Ideas?
First and foremost I searched. seems like all of the threads I have read resort to "Check your fusible link!"
So, I am here. I have spent 15.00 in fusible links. I have checked the following: Condensor fan wiring/relay - no resistance Ignition/switch/column - no chafed/burnt wires no other fuses blown anywhere in the car. No accidents ever. <pinched wires> no crazy electronics in the car. Cooling Fans unplugged Alternator unplugged good battery -new this year keeps poppin FSL's Any Ideas? Ever happened to anyone else? link to FSM for 96 S14? zy is still down... Thanks |

No resistance in a circuit usually means a short. A short would cause too much curent leading to components failing (burning out/opens in the circuit). This is generally speaking though. Is the condenser fan/relay supposed to measure 0 ohms? Just doesn't sound right to me.

Very common problem on S14s is the coil feed wire chafing on the cylinder head. Look under the hood, where the harness exits the fuel rail area and make a turn across the front cover, right there in the turn the head has a sharp edge that the harness rubs against.
I've fixed three cars so far and diagnosed a handful more with that problem. The coil feed is the black/red main ignition, it blows the 75A link. |

I have the same freakin problem...happens when ever I try to start the car and the battery is weak b/c of my dying alternator....if I crank for 5+ seconds, it pops the fuse...and I have 4 gauge wire run to the back for the battery...swapped that with welding cable wire...still pops the fuse
I'll look into this red/black wire. Thanks for the info, R240NA

Timeline: down for 2 weeks. after 90 for a tow back to the shop...I have kicked her to the curb. Back to driving my Jeep until more time is found to work on this.
6:15 a.m. Today- dressed in business attire, I read R240NA's post. walk outside with flashlight(still dark this early) Pop Hood, pull valve cover breather tube off, get hand dirty, twist harness near FL corner of cylinder head, see black/rusty grounding bolt, see hole on underside of harness, look closer and see shorted, melted harness, turn off flash light, shit pants, burst into laughter, Hug wife, rub kid on head, log onto Zilvia, type reply. Man, this is why I am a premium member after 10 posts. I love you guys. R240NA mad props! pm me ur e-mail address. |

And people call me an asshole, isn't that crazy?
Glad that's what it was, the first one I did took over 26 hours to track down, but after that one I know exactly where to look now. I even told a Nissan tech about it, he's fixed a few since then too. Until that point they were just swapping distributors and charging customers out the ass, hoping that was it. |
