Has anybody seen this magazine i guess its new. Anyway the guy puts a sr20det in a s13 and says that the stock turbo doesnt need coolent to run right. He runs the t25 with no coolent. im thinking has anybody around here ever done this?

It's common to run turbos without water cooling here in Japan.
It does reduce the service life of the turbo, but benefits the cooling system by reducing the possibility of boiling coolant and overheating the car.
OEMs use it because they need the engine to be as dependable as possible for as long as possible.
T25s? Who cares. They're $100 per, max.

I didnt even know turbos needed coolant... just oil, but from what mrmephistopheles said it all makes sense.

some turbos do some dont
mine i just have oil
some run both
but imo
if u hav a turbo that has coolant AND oil you should run both
because the head that builds up. the channels and cooling is only on rather then too, so you cut the turbos life down quite a bit

depends on the turbo
i would run both if it has both
otherwise, doesnt matter.

what they said... oil is the necessary part, water is optional. Id say run the coolant lines if you can, or atleast loop the lines, so you dont have the coolant thats supposed to be moving through hit a wall

if you think about it, u have nothing to lose by running the lines, its just an added piece of mind plus if it was stock then your cooling system should handle it...

garrett will void your warranty if you look in the wrong direction at the turbo and don't make three virgin sacrifices to it at 8am every thursday. atleast on their GT turbos.

This is very true... I bolted a brand-spankin-new GT35r to a customers car that went bad in 100 miles of driving with pretty much no boost whatsoever and they wouldn't warranty it.
