Alternator won't charge, what tells it to turn on?
My alternator won't charge in my rb20det. All the wiring should be there, but it isn't working for some reason. What tells the alternator to turn on? Where does that wire run?
The wiring is the same as it was in the Skyline (I laid the dash harness in as well as the engine harness). Thanks!

how do you know its the alternator?
start the car and take off one of the battery terminals. it should still run if the alternator is good. theoretically. could just be a horrible battery as well.

it's the alternator. The car dies unless I charge the battery with a charger, and there is a .3-.4 volt difference in the battery before and after the car starts. I had the alternator tested, and it is good, so it is wiring somewhere, not being told to turn on or something. I tried a new battery as well.

I had same problem. The wire running to the alternator was grounding out...This is for a KA so not too sure it will work for RB. A WHOLE new set of alternator wires did the trick for me!

check out the connections to the connector. Check to see if there is any corrosion or if it is loose. A lot of times connections come loose or get corroded. If it that doesn't seem to be the problem. You can use a volt-meter to see if you might have a break in the wire.
