i really want to throw in a SR20DET red top on my s13 coupe. i got a estimate from a shop for 2,800 is that too much or a good deal?

He said it came with this!!
(sr20det,new fuel pump,new air filter everything else is oem)

if thats for just a motor set, fuck that you can get them cheaper, but if thats installed its a pretty good price. seems to be about $800, which isnt bad because i had a shop try to charge me $1200 for labor.

I'm not sure of the quality of Heavy Throttles but all of the ones from Enjuku I've seen were amazing. Heavy Throttle is highly regarded though so I'm sure they're nice. Enjuku details all of the motors before they give them to you.

$2800 would be too much for the motorset and I kind of doubt that it's $2800 for the motor and installation. I'd be worried about the quality.

i would change the clutch and water pump while the motor is out. It will save you troubles down the road. And also is a good idea on a motor that will have been sitting around.

Exedy is always a safe bet...look around, theres a usually a deal on clutches going on in the groupbuy area.

Ya, for sure do the clutch while you have the motor out, it is so much easier. Motor and tranny mounts are also good options. Look if there is anything else that is needed, possibly new turbo gaskets. Also any other parts you were planning on upgrading soon after install, just do it all at once.

I would hate to sound like a prick.. but honestly.. if you need to ask man, you aren't ready. if you cant do a swap yourself, then at the very least you should know whats included in the swap, and what other shit should be swapped out...

DJ_Sunrise is too harsh. You do not need to have knowledge of swapping engines to get an SR20 swap. If that was true, 2/3rds of sr20 owners would not exist. On the other hand, you have to have some common sense about engine maintainence. I reccomend you get a blacktop since its newer and has a better chance of lasting you. Also, get a clip that is BONE STOCK to ensure it has not been abused. Important thing to know is if the swap includes the sr20det radiator. The KA radiator has the top opening on the opposite end. Good luck with your decision.

not only general knowledge about engine maintenance is needed to perform a swap but also an overall knowledge about engines themselves, wiring and what everything does will help as well. There will always be some sort of learning involved in anything you do.

If you have the money, get it serviced regularly by an experienced shop, they should be able to keep you on the up and up. SR20's are awesome reliable engines when proper maintenance is taken.

I have seen tons of Clips with Rolled ODO's (35k Kilos, and the steering wheel is worn to death by man handling.. gtfo). Also alot of SR's get reverted to stock before they are cut up and shipped. I would check metal flakes in the oil, and scaring on the cam lobes to judge engine wear.

The largest problem with SR owners, is not being able to bleed the air from the coolant system.

this is something i didnt bother doing but is really crucial if i do a motorswap again... if the motor is out, replace/maintenence every little easy thing there is. You might as well and it will be worth your wild.

thats not a bad deal at all if it includes labor. if i were you, id inquire what they have avail for a s13 blacktop, or even a s14 notchtop and opt for that instead. change the clutch while its easy to do so. the water pump is cheap, so might as well take care of that at the same time.

personally I'd replace a lot more things for the sake of reliability (timing belts, gaskets, sparkplugs), diagnostics (boost, oil pressure guages, maybe even splurge on a wideband) and ease of upgrading parts in the future (fmic, dp, exhaust). The SR reliability parts i put in at the same time cost a bit more than my s14 clip itself, but thats just me. just search around, there should be plenty of resources covering this on here and other nissan sites.

i'd highly recommend that if you can save up and do things right the first time around, you're going to save yourself a lot of $$$ and headaches in the long run. good luck!

dude, dont forget, once you get it swapped, you should change out your intake narps. get the hardened titanium ones...
