strange wot problem
Car is a 92 coupe with a ka.
Whenever I do a wot pull, the car will rev perfect through 1st and second, but in third, it feels like i'm hitting fuel cut at about 5500rpms; the car just bogs like crazy. It does this almost everytime. Then, sometimes it'll do similar things in other gears, but in the other gears, if I keep it at wot, the car will "bounce" off the "limiter" at a much lower rpm, then all of a sudden sort itself out and take's off like crazy. The thing about this that throws me off is that it doesnt happen all the time, usually the car runs fine other than the 3rd gear problem, but if i run into the 3rd gear problem, it will start doing the same thing in the other gears, but at lower rpms. hopefully what i've typed makes sense....anybody have any ideas? |

took the car out today, and when I did a wot pull in 2nd, and when after when I switched to third and hit the gas again nothing happened, at wot the rpms wouldn't move. when I let off the car died, and I let it sit for a minute, started it up and it ran fine again. this shit is crazy.

I did a power balance test, cleaned my maf, the egr is working fine, couldnt find any vacuum leaks. I'm about to go check my plugs/wires/dist cap&rotor, but all of those are less than a year old and have less than 7k miles on them. I'm going to replace the fuel filter today, and the plugs if they look messed up. Is there anyway to check the distributor or coil other than switching it out with a known working one?

Per the FSM, in section "EC" page EF & EC 86:
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 17 - LACK OF POWER AND STUMBLE CHECK FUEL PRESSURE: IGN ON - 43 PSI, AT IDLE - 34 PSI CHECK INTAKE AIR LEAK, lower blow-by air supply, does engine speed rise? Download an FSM and check out section EC. Best section.
