consider this trade for sr20det? cancel my rb25det?

My friend recently propositioned that I trade his sr20det for my work meister rims. The motor was in his car for a couple of years and gets beaten up quite frequently and ocassionaly blows out white smoke. I was leaning on swapping over an rb25det because I have one on order with a local shop, but im still considering the deal.

Let's just say for the amount of money that I can put into each motor, which one give me the better bang for the buck? I'm looking to spend ~3 grand. I like the fact that the RB25det is a skyline motor and torquer but I am afraid of the lack of oem parts and having to drop a 1000 just for a mounting kit.

And if i do want my friends abused sr what would you suggest replacing on it?

Thanks!

check the SR head gasket if its blowing white smoke. u can always rebuild the SR cheaper than swapping in a RB. RB swap is about 5-6k depending on what u replace when you do it.

since ur pretty much getting a free SR at no cost, u can rebuild the bottom end for less than $1000. then buy a better turbo, new head gasket, injectores and a ROM tune. cheaper than swappin a RB in.

obviously the rb is a nicer motor stock for stock, however, the money you could save doing the sr swap would be rediculous. your friend has one already, so no wait time, and you technically dont have to pay for it. you could just take the money you were saving for the rb and rebuild it to be just as strong if not stronger than an rb.

either way its your choice, but if you are on a budget and money does matter i would go with the sr

Ahem, your trading a set of Work Meisters for the engine. That is not exactly free like posters above think. Work Meisters are worth good money. Plus your getting a engine that blows white smoke and has been beat on for two years. Essentially your trading for someone elses junk.
Now if it was a clean engine with low miles and very healthy I might say do the trade, but honestly I do not think the trade is in your favor. Stick with your plans if you don't want your Works sell them. Its not like they are hard to sell. lol

^^^ What he said

Forget your friend's SR. Sell the Work Meisters, and put that money towards the RB swap.
