For Those Of Us With Dead Speedo's

Okay so a few weeks ago me speedo went out. At first i thought it just might be the cluster (like last time), but this is a much newer JDM cluster. I hunted through the junk yard yesterday and found 1 VSS. When i went to install today i found out that it was one of the wires to the VSS that was cut...

So i repaired the wire and **TAAHHH DAAAHHH** speedo works again.

Cause: worn tranny mounts and frequent scrapin probably caused the tranny to move a lot and some how pinched the wire against something.

Everyone with dead speedo's, worn tranny mounts, and low chassis should go check this right now!!!! Good Luck.

No speed sensor (in the trans) = no speed cut.

not true.
I was missing mine.
Was getting even worse speed cuts. Couldnt give it hardly any throttle.

Yeah, i don't know how you wouldn't get speed cut. The ECU doesn't know how fast the car is traveling and there is a 115 mph speed cut. so wouldn't it just be guessing when to cut? (right?)

You sure? Cuz i've driven with the speedometer's needle stop and my rpm's were only around 4.5-5k ish and I was still going.

btw, it's got a manual tranny if that makes a difference

Well i don't know the exact speed, but its somewhere around there. When my speedo is dead sometimes it cuts when i'm going like 60 mph, depends on what gear i'm in.

I remember the first time I saw a working tach and HUD on a S13... I flipped out lol, thought something was wrong with his dash. My speedo's never worked, and I'm pretty sure I plugged in the VSS and associated wiring myself on my current SR, and I did wire the dash harness myself. Oh well, no speed cut here, and the rest of the cluster works great ~

Speed Cut =
Speed Signal into ECU
4th Gear Sensor vs RPM
5th Gear Sensor vs RPM

Subtract = No more Speed Cut.

Dude, this shit is easy to wire up/fix. Dont be LAZY. I had my speedo not working for like 2 months, every girl who got in my car talked shit about it.(some s14 owners talk more shit than others..) F that.

Crawl under the car, the Speed Sensor (VSS) is at the tail end of the transmission, it looks like a cylinder 3/4"roundx1 1/2" tall, with a wire lead hanging out, bolted in by a 10mm screw, the harness leads up to the lower power harness, where it splits to feed into the ECU, and to the speedo via the "engine room harness" to the SMJ to the Cluster. You can jump the signal directly to the input on the cluster, and forget about the one on the ECU.

My speedo works when it feels like it.

But, recently, when my speedo doesn't work my odometer doesn't work either.
