Thats pretty shitty

Why would they possibly file charges against the driver? It was a legal event right?

If anything, press charges against whoever set up that section of road for the event... No concrete barriers at all, wtf is with that?

Damn that sucks.

It doesn't matter, technically he is guilty of manslaughter in some degree, I guess they could get the event organizers for criminal negligence or something.

They shouldn't have had a car like that running on a street anyway, thats stupid.

yeah I was reading about this today...pretty shitty situation, I guess all 6 people who died were kids like 15 and 16 then maybe 1 or 2 18-20 year olds....that is pretty stupid though that there were no barriers of any kind, In the newspaper I read they said they were saying he went out of control due to the road surface....pretty rare for a 20year drag vet to lose control of a car like that but still no barriers is just bad judgement

have you ever hit one of those hockey puck reflectors doing a high speed burnout? even in a 240sx it kicks your front end.

omfg... what a shitty situation....
1) there should have been barriers...
2) since the driver was a 20 year vet, I'm sure he should of known better that there should have been walls, why didn't he question that before burning out?

That was a STUPID mistake on the driver's part agreeing to that. That reminds me of street racing too much. Like my buddy said, all they should have done was put it on stands, unhooked the drive line and smash the throttle a few times.

when i first heard about this story I thought they meant a drag racer hopped over the walls and into the stands or something...pretty suprised to see the real story. Im sure its just a case of the guy having that attitude of "it wont happen to me" Im sure crashing into a wall of people was the last thing on this guys mind if the thought even entered his head...Im sure its so routine for him now that at that point he was probably thinking "what could possibly go wrong?"

shitty situation, If I had to guess I would say that he wasn't giving it all it had. Those cars make thousands of HP and I guess could easily get away from anyone, vet or not.

Damn that sucks. I think that it's the fault of the driver for agreeing to something that wasn't safe and the organizer's fault for not providing enough safety barriers for the spectators. But even at that speed and momentum of the drag car there's only so much that can stop it and the wreckage.

Sucks either way.

If I was AMS I'd hope that there's some insurance... definitely wouldn't want my name on the car or as part owner.. It was stupid to do a burnout with a full on drag car with slicks on the street and that HP. Bad deal but the avg car is a basic muscle car.. this was obviously not a street car...

It's a drag race event, in some small town in Tennessee, on a public street, with no safety precautions whatsovever and people standing right next to the road, and the driver decided to burn out. Obviously there was no one intelligent present.

that really sucks....good day gone bad right there... i feel bad for everyone involved...can you imagine how the driver must feel. shitty shit always sucks. next year they're sure going to have a lot of safety measures put in place. but like the guy said all they could do and should do is just embrace each other and as a community try to get past it.

it's actually a hot rod parade and at the end the cars do a "short burnout". Some people get carried away.

ha ok, someone repped me that.

wtf does a college of to do with stupid people? does everyone that lives in Tenn go to Vanderbilt University?

you got this pro driver right...doing a huge burn out on a public street right..with hundreds+ people standing on the side of the street right...

now compare this to those arabs that do the street "drifting" and hitting those people watching..you feel sorry?

My understanding is that it was a parade, not just some random event, which is why there were people so closely lined on the side of the road.
My thing is more against the planners/organizers than the driver, anyone who has EVER been to a drag strip knows that this kinda shit is going to happen, placing human lives not protected by the barriers of them at risk is just plain stupid.
Yeah, I feel for the families of those who were lost, but I also wonder about their mental capacity to use "well, it has never happened at any of these before" as their reasoning for allowing this mania to take place without proper safety precautions.

Crappy condition streets.

The whole street wasn't cleaned so there is still dust and fine debris on the track.

No groove in the lane he took off on.

Did they even use VHT?

More than likely The driver was overcome by adrenaline and thought, "How different could it be" Took off and then that happened.

Most of the time events like that are put together fairly cheaply so they tend to skimp on important things like that. Sadly.
