lucky you, i've already played w/ carbon fiber, here's so pointers.

it is difficult to make a shift knob, as a matter of fact i tried to make one yesterday, it is AWFULLY hard. here's why:

shift knob if round, and flat up top, try to roll a sheet of paper into the shape of a shift knob, difficult isn't it? 'cause carbon fiber come in sheets.

for gauge cluter, you can just use the gauge cluter it self as the mold.

same thing as the peddles. use the peddle themself as mold, or just coat cf around them.

be cautious w/ cf sheets, practice on a lil object first, u'll notice that the cf unweaves itself if you don't tap/be cautious aboutt he corners.

here's my advice...

HAHA make a carbon fiber antenna or some stupid shit like that, which won't work and then tell all the honda and acura guys that the shit is exclusive from japan and its type R and they will buy them in gross's HAHAH.

I hope you would never drift a Q45 unless you were just rich and liked to wreck expensive and nice cars

about the cf, umm you could try maybe the headlight cover thingies on S13s, for those with cf hoods, it might not look too bad. You could make a pair of em, one with the air hole and another w/o.

I am sure if you make em for a probe some ricer will buy them, I have a feeling they will look ugly so keep em away from S13s, unless someone with PS wants to do a little chop, I would but I am too lazy.

uhh i wouldnt experiment with c/f i would however experiment with fiberglass.

c/f is wayyyyy to expensive to "experiment with" get some fiberglass from wal mart and some resin and viola experiment your lil heart away. thats what ive been doing theres also books on how to work with composites.

I think a carbon fiber guage cluster thingie would look nice in my dark interior.
I may actually try that. Where can I score some sheets?

like i said work with fiber glass im going to start trying to make interior peices out of fiberglass like door panels and other such stuff to see how far i can get and then im going to see when im extremely bored on making a fb hood

work with fiber glass its your best bet to hone your skills and is alot cheaper so you'll feel better when you have to do something again

c/f sheets arent very cheap. ive read up alot on this inn my quest to make composites a hobby.

here are some links

http://www.uscomposites.com/

http://www.tapplastics.com/fiberglass/index.html

http://www.fibreglast.com

then see how much you want to experiment with c/f

actually, HKS made a altezza in japan that has carbon fiber body panels. it had 500 or 600hp, and was made for 1 purpose, to beat the fastest time for some corse. and it did, and that was all it did. 100,000 bucks down the drain.

so does the mclaren, full carbon fiber body.

actually, carbon fiber is a conductor, so it will act as a functional antanna. carbon fiber is a heat conductor as well. humm... interesting, i shall make 'em and sell as "JDM antanna" appose to "EURO antanna" honda guys will fall for it

correction on the HKS altezza. they actually spent 300,000 on the 600hp altezza. it's a full custom carbon fiber body, that's not polished/clear coated, so it's just the hardened carbon fiber in it's natural form, not the pollished up one. (when i cf coated my strut bar, i had the HKS altezza in mind <pic below>)

my cf coated strut bar that i made, still a bit glossy

600hp HKS altezza, notice the un-shiny finishing

how do you get the raw carbon fiber look? doesn't the resin you use make it glossy? i would love to have a raw carbon fiber hood. look hella more aggresive imo

I was planning on making a body kit for my S14. I plan to use chicken mesh wires as mold. Would it work?

most people who i know who make moldings of and for c/f use a fiberglass gel-coat as the mold medium, and a purpose specific mold release (like spray silicone, but i don't think it is)

you have to remember the complexity ofthe shapes involved in a body kit, specifically the front bumper. you would most likely need a multi piece mold, and that's just a pain in the ass.

good luck
