I would suggest the 240Z but the tight budget thing points all signs toward the 240SX. 240Zs are more project cars and require more money to take care of. 240SXs can never see money for a while as long as u do basic maintanence and don't go crazy with it, but I am guessing you still go to some sort of school, and for someone in school to be trying to maintain a 240Z and pay for all that other crap will be hard.

or how about, keep my 240sx plain stock, buy a 240z (cheap) and gradually work on it, to be the drag car? what you guys think?

I guess you could do that but before you know it you are gonna be tryin to turbo the 240 and all that other crap. I know I don't have enough self control to keep 1 car stock while saving all my money for a different one, but to each his own. It would be nice to have both cars though.

In the late future I'll have a 240Z and put a nice RB or VG or SR in there, but thats after I finish project 180SX.

Kidynomite- did you even get a 240 yet?

No project car is ever cheap without lots of tools behind it or friends with a shop. Consider the car you would rather drive around everyday while bone stock and mildly tuned since that's what it will be till you have the money for a lot of work.

Honestly, if you only want to go fast in a straightline for cheap, go with a big block anything.  They've done it for years, parts are cheap, and the path is well paved.
