RPM slipping after car is warm? Help Plz!
I have a 95 s14..stock KA, recently got a 5spd swap. right now, when my car is at a cold start its perfectly fine, no slipping. Then after driving for about 15 mins or so (or when car is fully warm) my rpm starts slipping in 2nd gear and up. from 2000 rpm to about 3000 engine its revving but no power. what could the problem be? Dirty MAF? could it be clutch related or something with tranny?
I also changed my clutch line to steel braided recently, i didnt bleed the clutch fully, just took out all the air, could that be the problem? Tune up is done already, wires, plugs, dist., etc. Thanks!

well i just finished talking to the place that did my swap..i told them that i recently changed my clutch line and he said that i should rebleed my system. make sure no air is in there. maybe its because i didnt bleed all the way the last time? he's experienced the same problem too. and as far as clutch going out.. i dont think so because he said i got a new one in there. maybe i should try readjusting the clutch pedal.
if im wrong please correct me. to adjust the pedal, the screw? or thing u adjust is behind the clutch pedal and do i turn that clockwise or counter?

Turning the screw counter-clockwise would lower the point where the clutch pedal engages the clutch and turning it clockwise will raise it, I believe. Been a while since I've had to adjust mine but I'm about 95% sure that's the way it is. Should be pretty easy to tell for sure once you get under there and start to do it.

2/3 sounds right... did you break in the clutch after the swap also did... also what brand of clutch did you use...

air in the line would make it so he cant engage the clutch, it would be stuck in gear. It sounds like your clutch is on the way out

I had a similar problem with a 240 that came into the dealership and pretty much I put a new clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder and bleed it out real good and it took care of the problem. I thought it was the clutch going bad but one had been installed somewhere else. So maybe you can try bleeding it out cuz sometimes they are a pain to do so and get all the air out.

could be the clutch wasn't broken in properly or maybe you got rear seal oil leak, getting oil on the clutch after a few minutes of operation? well good luck |

Did you change the rear main seal? If it's a new clutch it may be oil leaking from the rear main seal on the clutch disc causing it to slip.

I'm guessing the clutch discs are worn and are showing their age as the engine gets hotter... My old twin would sing but as the temps went up the singing disappeared...

How about.... What brand Clutch and Pressure Plate is that?
Ive had bad experiences with an XTD clutch [ebay clutch] I bought to get around. Sounds exactly like your situation. It was worse than my worn out clutch, after 30 min it slipped like crazy. I could literally leave it in gear and it wouldnt stall. After ruling out other possibilities, I ruled it down to 1. XTD makes shitty pressure plates 2. components in the clutch material sucks after heating 3. XTD just makes crap. 4. XTD makes the shittiest clutches ever. That and XTD didnt uphold its warranty. assholes. I hope if its the clutch, that you put it in yourself... I put mine in myself.. both times. When it was fucked, and when i realized XTD is fucked.

If you clutch wasnt DISengaging, you would look towards hydraulic lines and cylinders. Since this is not your problem, look elsewhere. I would look towards something mechanical. You may have glazed the clutch, oil on fly/clutch, a broken/bad flywheel or even a problem in the trans itself. I would take it back to the place that did the swap. |
