Wiring help w/ s14 zenki
Okay, my car was not cranking at all when i turned my key. So i figured it was my starter, because my battery was new as well as my alternator. I have no idea what my dad did.. i guess he ghetto rigged it. I would ask him but he's out of town for a while.
Here's my problem.. I see that he re-wired something from my battery to my what looks like might be the starter to make it start. But now.. everytime i want to start the car i have to clip the wire that seem's to go from my starter to my battery terminal .. any1 have any ideas. I know its probably no help w/o pics. Oh yea, this info. might help to.. as soon as i clip that wire to the terminal (or wire that should be on terminal) the car will jump.. and then all i gotta do is turn the key for it to start. I guess its hotwired?? |

correct. there is the thick battery cable that goes to the starter motor, and then the little wire goes to the starter solenoid. when you turn your key to the start position, that wire get's 12 volts which then engages your starter. so when you're jumping the starter solenoid wire with 12volts from the battery, yes it will turn the motor over.
if your s14 used to be an automatic then you simply need to complete the circuit that your "inhibitor" or "park neutral safety switch" breaks. OR if you don't want to go that route you can just take down the plastic from the bottom of your steering wheel, and the thick black with yellow stripe wire that's on the ignition switch (which is your start signal wire), you can tap a wire into that and run that wire to your starter solenoid. gl =] @@ |
