I thought the CA was extremely unique, but then when i saw the black 240 91 CA on ebay, it made me sad, and i found this one site that is selling a RB20DET for 1600 Shipped, which will give me more power, which i like, what are your guys personal oppinons on this topic,

CA or RB

For Price, Power for $, Install, Reliability, overall performance

Price:  adv. CA18DET CA is even cheaper than $1600...does that price you got quoted get you a GOOD RB?  usually RBs aren't that cheap unless they are missing parts or have high miles

Power for $:  adv. RB20DET since the baseline is higher and it has more displacement and more cylinders and is known for being friendly to boost...comes with a better turbo than the CA too

Install:  adv. CA18DET since it drops in to the S chassis with no funky mounts or intake manifold modifications...as easy as just changing some wires.

Reliability:  equal as they are both well-made Nissan motors...however, parts for a CA might be a BIT easier to source.

Overall performance:  adv. RB20DET since it is far smoother being  6 cylinder...but that is a really subjective opinion.

This is a tough call, man.  I'd say if you're going the CA route, get one from Europe if you can, since it will be wired and setup for LHD...try to get the whole clip.

Performance for dollar spent the KA-t or the SR still have the RB and CA beat. In terms of support, knowledge on hand, replacement parts, upgrades, ect.

I still think that it is flawed logic to select a motor based on how unique it is. Power is power. Someone will always have a similar setup. If you want to be unique take up performance art. If you want a fast car go with what works. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

I agree with uuninja. It will be really unique when it is sitting in your driveway because it brokedown and you can't get parts for it. &nbsp;

Go with the sr and get custom parts to make it unique.

It will always be the same, even if you have a RB, CA, SR or KA. When I have my KA-T every local ricer still thought I had the stupid SR even after telling them and showing them its the stock KA engine with a turbo on it. They just looked at me weird and said nice Silvia. Its also cool when there like "Why dont you put Silvia Badges on your car man?" People need to be bitchslapped.

Sure I do. I have a KA-T, I get it all the time. What is worse is they look disapointed when I say it is a KA-T not an SR. But do you really want friends that are that dumb? No, I don't. Seriously if the only factor pushing you towards a RB20 or a CA18 is the unique factor. I think you should check your math. If there is another factor motivating your decision then by allmeans, lets hear it.

I vote for the CA for ease of install and locating parts. I think the CA is a better design than the SR20, it's got a better intake design, better cam setup and makes good power for it's displacement. Think about it; the reason they stopped making the CA18DET is because it was overengineered and cost them too much money. Plus, the CA is going to be cheaper than an SR.
