Causes for no spark????

Hello Everyone, I have a friend who has an s13. There is not any spark comming out from the distributor. We changed the distributor and there is still no spark. The distributor is rotating so the gears arent stripped. What do you guys think the problem could be? From what I read on here I am thinking that it might be a bad computer? Thanks in advance!

Check main ignition power wiring by ECU and the battery
-check for bad ignitor
-bad ECU
-shorted harness.

So will a bad ignitor prevent spark from comming out of the distributor? And if so, where exactly is it located?

Check if you have spark at the coil first. Take the plug wire that connects the coil to the distributor & unhook it from the distributor. Hold the distributor end of it near a bolt (the ones on the driver shock tower work good) and crank the engine. Then you'll know if you're getting spark out of the coil.

If you have no spark, another reason could be you could have a bad CPS (crank position sensor) that's inside the distributor. There is a code for this, so pull the codes from the ECU and see what the deal is. The ignitor is a small transitor box that is attached to the side of the coil. Look it up in the FSM to see where it is... You could have a bad coil too, the FSM says to check the resistance of the primary coil and then the secondary coil (they give specs what it should be).

there is a ground wire on the coil pack harness
your spark plugs have to be grounded. so if you are not grounding spark plugs when looking at them thats why. just rest the side of spark plug on the block.

and what everyone else said.
