crappy idle

i have a redtop sr and it normally idles at 850-900 and is consistant. lately its been dropping(650-750) like it wants to cut off then will come back up hold at normal then drop agian. the car is running rich but would that be the cause? any ideas? thanks

could easily be a vac leak. check all vacume lines with a pressure tester (serach for homemade ones or go buy one) thats the most likely problem.

check vac and IC couplings, if thats not it, try cleaning AICV with carb cleaner, they get dirty and cause fluctuating idle.

also, What type of BOV are you running? My blitz leaks and causes fluctuating idle, but not bad enough to replace it yet. If you rev the car in neutral, and the idle drops way low and bounces back up, it could be the BOV.

hopefully its just a leak or aicv tho. bov are $$ =(

Yes a car that is running rich will stall the car because you are flooding before you can burn it. Either raise your idle or lower FPR or lower richness through ecu

This happened to me a couple of times. I just sprayed carb cleaner to clean up my maf and the idle returned to normall. For me it was a crappy/fake kn style filter and dusty roads. Thats after checking for vac and boost leaks.

Never spray carb cleaner on your MAFS, that will destroy the MAFS for sure. There is actually MAFS cleaner from Kragen, but never use anything that harsh on a mafs.
