Alright, now that i have my break light problem fixed, now i am starting to work on getting the drivers side window to roll down. I hear the motor going up and down but the window will not budge, even if i press on it. So i took the door panel off and poked around a bit and saw nothing at first, but then as i was rolling the window up and down i saw a metal wire wedge between the gears that you can see looking straight at the door panel. So the problem is my cable snapped! So i guess my question is how do i go about fixing this. Can it be done without taking it to a dealership? the point of me buying the s13 was to learn all i could about it and fix all the problems possible, so is this repair extremly difficult? and where would i go about finding the part for the job? thanks in advance :hammer:

As I recall, those cables can be a bitch- might want to see if you can find a regulator at the junkyard.

power window cable? It's just a motor with a level to move the window up and down on a slider. The alignment could have slipped. I dont' recall a cable... unless it's different in the s13.

yes there is most definatly a metal wire cable I am not even sure about it but i cant find a FSM for my car so i have no way of telling, i cant find the part anywhere online or anything, so maybe i am wrong

The wire and levers are contained in a rectangular box thing that is mounted against the window itself. The wire is the thing that moves the window. A motor pulls and retracts the wire. It's not hard to pull out. You have to take out the door panel, then the window and wire mechanism together. If you just look at it, you'll figure it out. It's impossible to fix the wire correctly, just go to the junkyard and get another mechanism and attach it to your window. Fairly easy to do.

Yeah, Its a really easy thing to change out. I had to do mine about a month ago. Unfortunately, the power window regulator is $180 (iirc) from the dealership. And you have to buy the whole thing (doesn't include the motor though, which is probably a good thing) It's a pretty big contraption for what it does, if you think about it. Go to a junkyard, find a 240 with pwr windows and pull it yourself. That way you'll know how to do it when you do your car.....Also, if you want a pic of the regulator, I still have my broken one hanging around.

P.S. If you get it from the junkyard make sure it's in good shape (cable, and pullyes) otherwise you might have to do this again...soon

Yes, the regulator is the same for both coupe and hatch. Why? It's the same fucking car.
The regulator comes out easily through the top of the door by removing four M8 nuts, two at the bottom and two up top. Pull the waist moulding off the door and remove the glass, it slides right out after that. Used I get about $50 for one, that's average used price but some yards go as low as $25.

And yes, the S13 reg is cable driven, the S14 is not, it's a scissor arm assembly.

I went to junkyard today.. man its a pain in the ass to take out... I couldn't get it out... man! easier said than done! I heard taking off the window helps a lot.. but how can you take out the window if you can't lower it down?

Bring a battery and hot wire it. Its 2 wires, hook them up one way and its up switch them around and its down. You could also bring a hammer and break the window.

I sent you a PM, i have a spare regulator if you're interested. Also when trying to take out the regulator it helps if the window is all the way down, this way you can remove teh stoppers and the window first, slide it out and then the regulator will be 1000 times easier to remove than with the window still attached. Took me 3 days to figure that out on my own.

correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that going to be more work and cost more money in the long run if you get it from the junk yard? Sure It's seems cheaper now, but you have to search the junk yards for one and then pull it out. Hoping its going to work for a descent amount of time, or work at all. S13's are 14+ years old and even if someone has replaced the stock one how long ago was that. Save yourself the time and money and look on ebay/auto part store/internet for a new one, find the best deal and buy it. For installation, Chilton's or Haynes installation guides should have a detailed step by step guide.

Like R240NA said, take off the door panel and remove the nuts and molding off door and glass slides right out.
