Adjustable Shocks

Does anybody know who (if anybody) makes adjustable shocks/struts for an S14? &nbsp;I've looked on Tokico, Koni, & KYB's sites and have had no success finding anything. &nbsp;I've tried searching (since it works great now--thanks Mark!&#33<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>, but I didn't see any posts where people mentioned having adjustables on their S14. &nbsp;

I'm getting really close to needing replacements on my car (80800 miles on my current suspension--front's starting to pop on these "wonderful" <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':crazy:'> roads in my neighborhood), and want to get something really nice for my baby &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/inlove.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Yes HKS makes them, JIC makes them I will get you links but all I do is go to google and type in the Companies name and usually it pops up. Here are is a list of manufactures:

You can't go wrong with Tokico or Koni's. &nbsp;

Depends on the budget.
Koni's are re-builable/ re valveable, not sure if the Tokico's are. &nbsp;
You get more adjustment for the dollar with the Tokico's.

The Tokico HTS's are adjustible, however they are an import only item. Sam at jspec can get them for you.

what about gab super hp's??? anyone using these??? i thought about going wth koni yellows, but they only offer shock inserts for the front...

AGX's now have a release date set up. &nbsp;I saw on FA a week or so ago that the rep replied to someone's email stating that they would be release, iirc, 8/31/02. &nbsp;Try a search over there or just email the KYB guy to double check me.

only about 3 g's, but if you got the $$$...

Ohlins makes some nice stuff also, but it's hard to find and even harder to replace.

Never fear the Koni Yellows. Me and my friend did the install ourselves, and the front insert madness is actually pretty easy. All you need is a good hack saw from a hardware store. The one we used was about 1.5 feet long.

Then you need a drill and some good bits meant to go through metal. However, I still had no problem buzzing through the strut housing with bits meant for wood. Sure, it's extra work, but its not at all hard.... more like... time consuming. I think building the front shox took an hour and a half altogether.

So this means that nobody makes adjustables specifically for the S14 right now? &nbsp;But KYB is in the process of designing them and the tentative date of release is August 31?

I just settled for the KYB GR2's... For the amount and type of driving, I don't see it necessary to get adjustables. And on the occasional day at the track or scca event, the KYB's perform better than stock. &nbsp;Remember that good lowering springs also play a huge roll on the way the suspension feels and performs.

i recommend the GAB HP. &nbsp;i have them on my 97 SE with prokits and the are excellent. &nbsp;4 way adjustable on the front & 8 way in the rears. &nbsp;

i just purchased KYB AGXs for my 91 SE and the are also excellent. same 4 way front/ 8 way rear adjustment as the GAB. &nbsp;the AGX S14 rumor has been going around for a couple of years.

FWIW, the GAB & AGX are exactly the same. same color(red) same adjustments. &nbsp;i think the GABs are made by AGX.

So I don't really need adjustables if my car is a daily driver and an SCCA car? &nbsp;Should I just go w/ the KYB non-adjustables w/ Pro-kits? &nbsp;That would be the most cost-effective route for me, but would it be the best in the long run when I finally get to race a full SCCA season (starting next year--personal issues came up that blew this season out of competition)?

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;$411. difference

are the GABs worth it? &nbsp;if you just cruise the street - no, if you auto-x once in a while - maybe. if you want to race and win - YES.

a NA KA is a 240 is not fast. &nbsp;the strongest character trait of our car is its handling due to FR layoutand the independant rear axle. so anything you can due to improve that advantage is important. since we not that fast in a straight line, our speed is gained in the corners, or should i say carried through the corner. this is where adjustable suspension is important. it gives you the ability to fine tune oversteer/understeer for the particular course you are running. &nbsp;competitive setups are not one-size-fits-all which is what you get with non-adjustable setups.

you will also need to invest in a good anti-sway bar setup. i recommend the whiteline adjustables.

i have two 240s and both have adjustable setups.

I think that shocks are the third (maybe even second) most important handling component on the car and deserve a lot more attention than they get from many people. &nbsp;If you look at the national level autoxers, their shocks are the most expensive thing on their car (in some cases, the shocks are worth MORE than the cars <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> ). &nbsp;(BTW: #1 = Tires; #2/3 = sway bars). &nbsp;The great thing about OTS shocks is that you can turn them up to run and then turn them down for the ride home!

That said, I'd wait to see the deal w/ the AGX's. &nbsp;For the money (likely about $450), they would be a MUCH better part than the non-adjustables. &nbsp;(FWIW, I've got an email into KYB this a.m. - I'll post up the reply). &nbsp;The non-adj's are barely better than stock and don't offer the ability to fine tune the handling of your car, which is vital to performance driving. &nbsp;Around here, in a VERY competitive region, you find two kinds of shocks - OEM (from autox tourists and haven't upgraded) and adjustables (from AGX to external resevoirs). &nbsp;If you are taking the time to compete - I suggest getting what competitors use. &nbsp;For the slight extra price difference (even if you spend up for Konis) you will be rewarded.

I also agree that sway are vital, in your case. &nbsp;If you are running SCCA rules, the Eibachs will more you into STS anyway - which is a killer class! &nbsp;If you are going to be there, you will not be at all competitive w/o investing in some great tires, good shocks, and a nice sway bar set. &nbsp;With that, I think the 240 should be a decent contender.
