Put some 6.5s components or coax's in the door by making or buying a 4x6 to 6.5 template. You can add tweeters to the foam door panel near where it curves meets the dash. Put a 10" or a 12" sub in the trunk/hatch and you're gtg.... Ditch the rear 4x6 speaks if it's a hatch, or do 6.5s in the rear deck if it's a coupe. Whatever brand you like, I like Alpines myself but what you decide on depends on your budget.

6.5's in the doors, 6.5's in the back i've got 6x9's in my hatch cover, which was a mistake.

i second mello's post. ditch the rears no matter what. if the fronts are good enough and you don't need big bass, you can pass on the subwoofer too.

my old s13 had infinity components up front (i put the tweeters on the dash though) and 4x6s in the back. once, while messing around i turned the fade all the way forward and i couldn't even tell a difference. the front speakers so thoughly overpowered the rears they are a complete waste of time.

if you really want a sub, try this. since it looks like you have a coupe, you could put a pair of 8" subs on the rear deck (JL and Memphis make a few). nice addition to the low end without a lot of lost space or clutter in the trunk.

i have a circa 2002 jvc head unit that skips brand new cd's with some pioneer speakers all around. sounds like crap, but it's better than loud muffler drone.

Used to one my first car - gay 91 Celica - 'cause I had the hook up at work. Shit got stolen and never cared for audio since.
Any brand name speakers will be an upgrade on the crappy OEM ones. Don't forget a decent amp and head unit.

JBL 6.5 component fronts and infiniti reference 4x6 rear's with a apline 9835 deck (one of the best back in 2005)

fronts sound amazing and have a nice little bass to them, rears are just better than the stock stuff I had before.

I didn't want to add much weight and we all know its hard to fit a 3rd person in the back so I just got some decent ones to fill the mid/highs

I have/had (currently removing) Alpine everything, head unit, with 6" in the doors, and the rear cut for 6x9's with a 10" sub and amp in the trunk. I like it, it sounds really good without being overly expensive.

My new system is a live jukebox/karoke machine with a great selection of the classics, but it will occassionally goof on the lyrics, and doesn't always quite have the tune right. It will take requests, if it's in the right mood, and doesn't pretend it sounds better then it is. If it has a cold, it takes the day off.

i use some phoenix gold 6.5 in the front. with 4 bose tweeters in the "cab". with nothing in the rear. all powered by a 200/4 kenwood amp and kenwood head unit. music is real nice, loud, and clear. sometimes i miss bass though. a nice 10" sub sounds pretty good too. or could always just take a boom box with you every where you go...lol
