who has a motorcycle??
Ok so I found out Im getting paid more this summer thinkin Im gonna save and finally pick up a motorcycle this winter when prices go down a bit. Ive been wanting one for a while and I have been looking at 01+ GSX-R 600's, CBR 600 RR's or F4i's or maybe an R6. Just wondering who on zilvia rides and what input you have for someone getting their first bike...Im really leaning towards the gsxr but give me your input

i got a 05 r6 raven.
mods: puig double bubble screen, hotbodies flushmounts, LP rear signals, fender eliminator, 06 exhaust ![]() start off with a 600cc. there is NO need for any more unuseable power. 1000cc is just too much power for a n00b to handle. |

Haha, there's a place downtown by the river in KC where bikers used to meet up, they'd just leave the illegal bikes in the bushes.

i daily an 02 R6...i love it to death! highly recommend buying one, they're fairly cheap and fast, mine generally will hold the front up into 3rd gear...ive done 157mph on it and it gets 35mpg (or more)...and insurance was 625$ for a year. i dont get hasseled by police and its bone stock with the expection of frame sliders, good tires, good brake pads, small turn signals...and thats about it.

What are your plans for the bike? Just daily riding, canyon carving or stunting? Insurance should be cheap for a 600, assuming it's liability it'll probably run you $50 bucks a month.

Maybe if you get liability only or some bullshit like that, but maybe I'm one of the few that can't afford to write off a 8-10k bike.

I have an R6.
Don't listen to that fucking idiot. Get a 600 or lower. I would honestly suggest lower. Remember, your not getting a bike to look fucking cool. If you care that much about people opinion, might as well let someone else choose your bike. People that start with 250's, or 500's turn out to be much, much better riders then people who start on liter bikes. You will learn the bike quicker, you will feel more comfortable, and have more control on a smaller bike. Then you can move up. And you will ride properly, and be in full control. Do you have any previous riding experience? And.. My bike. ![]() Tyler |

I'm rocking an 07 Ninja 650r.
I love it. I'm gonna start daily-ing it cause it's summer. That and I just got my gear. IMHO, the 650r is a great bike to start. It has decent powerband and very flickable. It has all the aftermarket support as all the other brands. Don't get anything higher than a 650cc as your first bike, don't be stupid. A Flick of the wrist and you're facing the sky. I can barely keep mine in speed limit, and it's only a 650cc. + I don't think there's a point to owning a Litre bike, a 750cc has the same power and much lighter. Unless you're planning on stunting.. That's just me tho..

05 Buell Blast. Cruiser-Style bike. I really digg it because its a learning bike, i'm learning what i can do, and can't do, proper riding techniques, all that good stuff. Its pretty fast, but probably not up to par with GSXRs and whatnot.
One thing i love about riding is the camaraderie. Saying hay is cool. The other day, i stalled, and the bike doesn't hold a charge, so i push started it. Weird, but cool. ![]() learning bike FTW! kickstand stuntaaaaaa! |

i currently own a honda 1000rr i started with a kawi ninja 500r. my insurance is pretty low $160 for the whole year. The only r6 i would get is the anniversary edition other than that i dont like them seat position hurts my nuts, gsxr has nice seat position, and 600rr makes you hug the tank. Get fuel injected, gsxr started in 2000 (03 telefonica or alstare), r6 in 2003 but had gremlins since it was new setup, 600rr in 2003 my personal pick, f4i in 2000 dont really like them they are more like touring bikes in my opinion.
the gsxr would be the best if you dont want to spend too much, and used parts are easy to come by. |

f4i is more daily friendly of all the 600cc bikes you've mentioned. to make it fast, just change your sprocket -1/+2 it'll give you enough pep to keep up with r6's and 600rrs in the hills. i used to own both f4i and 600rr, my f4i is my favorite bike, cheap easy to beatup and comfortable for a 6'2" rider. if you ask me what bikes are comfortable for a tall rider id tell u to get the f4i. sit on each and you will know immediately what you like or not, bc if the seating position sucks for the 2-5 minutes ur sitting on it not moving, riding it will be 100x worst. Also for a beginner, the F4i is very very forgiving. Great stunt bike also. Ask most stunters, they'll tell u they're either still rocking a f4i or started on one.
I still own my RR but the only reason is that I've got some weird attachment to it, and refuse to post it for sale.

and FYI, CBR600s came EFI in 01 (F4i)...00s are still carb'd F4s...GSXR600s came EFI in 01 (SRADs successor) and iirc, GSXR750s came EFI in 99...i could be horribly wrong though because i havent kept up with gixxers in years...

The truth of the matter is you dont want your first bike to be your last bike... a couple of points to consider:
Buying a 500 or 250 as a first bike isn't as bad as toolbags on internet forums make it out to be. You learn the basics, they are more forgiving, they are cheaper (you wont feel bad when you drop it...and you WILL drop it) and they have a better resale value since people like you are always wanting to get a starter bike. Keep it for 6 months to a year, then sell it and move on. The guys that know and love riding will tell you this is the ONLY way to start. Dont spend all of your money on the bike. Save hundreds of dollars extra to spend on gear (jacket, gloves, helmet, maybe even boots). Don't feel pressured. The cycle community as a whole is full of a lot of misinformation. People are pressured into doing things because they are considered cool. Do only what you feel comfortable doing, because in the end, thats whose life you're responsible for, and that's the life that will be at your right wrists disposal. Don't buy a bike based on other peoples suggestions. Do your research, like you are doing now, think it over, and don't rush. I could probably go on forever, but i'll stop there. I bought my first bike one year ago, an '03 Suzuki SV650s (right around the $4000 mark) and had a blast. Just sold it to build my SR. Slower than the 600 Super Sports, more rider friendly, lower insurance, still has the sportbike look, MORE than enough power to get you into trouble, and you cant forget that gorgeous V-Twin sound...mmmmm. I would highly recommend one. A great comprimise between power and ridability. In the end, you'll find the guys that care about you and the sport of motorcycling will be suggesting the lower cc bikes because they teach you how to ride. After all, bikes are made to be ridden, that stunting shit is for toolbags. ![]() |
