Asshole Cop.... Opinions?

Witnessed an accident. Looked like they were both pulling over and o.k, so i pulled into the parking lot and went into the store. When i came out of the store and was pulling out of the parking lot i saw only one car(the one NOT at fault) and a cop just pulling up behind her.

I pulled behind the cop(who was just out of the car) and walked withing 6 feet(kept my distance) and said "hey, i saw everything but gotta run... Want my number?" He rudly replied "maybe....once you step on the curb". He then ingnored me.

I said F' it and walked to the victim and gave her my phone number and name and told her to call if need be for insurance reasons. The cop then came to me and DEMANDED my license.

I simply said "for what?".

He freaked out and said "listen buddy!!! You are a witness to a crime...GIVE ME YOUR LICENSE!!!"

I replied "You don't have to be an ass. I'm just trying to help but i need to go"

He then exclaimed " YOU CALL ME AN ASS ONE MORE TIME AND YOU'LL BE IN THE BACK OF MY CAR IN CUFFS!!!"

I handed him my license and asked "whats your name?"

He handed me my license back and said "GET OUT OF HERE.. JUST LEAVE"


My question- Can a cop really arrest someone for being called a name, or was he just bluffing?

Bluffing I'd guess, but he could have arrested you and later make up charges.
I would have written his badge number and license plate number down and later filed a complain.

One thing everyone should realize with any type of law enforcement: shut your fucking mouth. Even if your trying to help in a situation like this. Give him your id, let him write down your shit, then get out of there.
If your ever questioned by a cop: Keep your mouth shut...dont say shit. Easy as that. The less you say to law enforcement, the better the encounter goes.

People should know what they are getting themselves into when training to be a cop. Why do they have to be assholes? Seriously if you cant handle bullshit all day long dont be a cop, because you're asking for it. Cops think they are above the law, and in a way they are. They can make bullshit charges up and throw you in cuffs. Sad attempt to flex their power.

Cops are supposed to be protecting us, yet it seems the only way they protect us is by instilling fear. Yeah yeah, they do more good then bad, but like i've said in other post, NO action should be bad coming from the uniform. No excuses period.

I'll be walking out of a store and see a cop, then ask him hows it going. I'll get completely ignored. It's rare i meet a nice officer, and my friend who retired after 35 years at the LA county sheriffs department will agree with me, most of the guys just like to flex power and be dicks. So even a fellow cops thinks the way most of us think, it must be true to some extent.

well i had one cop pull me over in my mazda...(7 times in one week) I was just driving normal but he always pulled me over for my "loud exhuast"...which wasnt loud at all...He said my car was louder then a V8 mustang...and then he said..."i have a chevy four wheel drive and your piece of crap is louder then my chevy" I didnt back talk him or anything because im trying to not get a ticket...or jail time...and i would NEVER curse toward or to a cop (not in their face at least)....But i got pulled over 2 times withing 1 hour, and the same cop...but life goes on

Cops can pencil whip you (pretty much write whatever they want) So you have to be the bigger person in a situation like that. Is it fair no. But I'd much rather swallow my pride then swallow a dudes... yeah.

it doesnt matter if your a cop, a politician, or the president. If the person is being an ass, they know that they are doing it. Just because he dawns a badge doesnt mean he deserves respect. It means that he provides safety and security to everyone. doing your job half ass and being a dick is hardly doing it right.

bottem line... if a cop ever harasses you, take his name and his badge number, if he doesnt give it to you, or acts like an ass... just write down his squad car number and time he was there. go to city hall and file a complaint. DONT even bother to go to the police station, they will just laugh their asses off at you. Ive had this done to two dickhead officers who tried to break up a party at 10pm once. they wanted everyone to leave the property (my house) and i told them everyone is going to just move inside the house. and they demanded that everyone leave. i then said "you want everyone to drive drunk? or did you just want people to get in their cars so you can give them tickets??" he wasnt too happy, but he knew i was right, and so did the 100 some people walking around. city hall said they would open an investigation with IA and everything... havent seen those officers in MPK since.

again... i have nothing against good police officers... its the ones that are dicks/corrupt/ or just fuggin abuse their title. those officers can kiss my arse and suck a fuggin log out.

I was coming home late one night from bartending years ago.. We had called the cops cause a fight broke out in the bar. Anyway, as I was on my way home the same cops we called pulled me over for a tail light that was out. He ran my ID and told me to get out and put my hands on the hood of my car. I was like... WTF? I'll replace the light tomorrow man. Come to find out I had a warrant for my arrest cause I paid a traffic bill 2 months earlier and the dumb bitch took my money, gave me a receipt and forgot to put it in the system that I paid the bill!

I spent 12hrs in a holding cell with 20 other people for no reason! Kept in mind I had just worked a 10hr shift. I finally got someone to go to my place and get my receipt and bring it up there. And you know what they said... Not a damn thing! No sorry, no apology, no nothing. Just a "you can go".

Trust me, I had every right to be pissed off but I knew if I started yelling or cursing it would just get a hell of alot worse.

Given your situation, it probably wasnt the smartest approach. NEVER get invovled unless you have to. You have to remember, cops are always on their highest alert and everyone is a suspect to them (think about it, would you want random people coming up to you?) if I was a cop I wouldnt trust anyone either. You just have to know how to respect them and know how to let them know they can trust you.

As for everything else, if you did nothing wrong and he's just trying to give you a hard time, FUCK them. Ive been pulled over before and that was the best night of my life. I gave that cop hell since he had NO reason (literally) to pull me over. I kept talking shit to him (to a certain level, but enough to annoy the crap out of him) and he took forever to figure out what he could write me up for. I ended up getting a ticket for some old ass faded purple tint. Even when he gave me the ticket I took a long ass time to sign it. With cops its all about respect. If you give it and you guys understand eachother you should get it back, if not, fuck him and just be careful what you say.

The way I see is that there's asshole cops and then there's good cops. Sometimes you meet the bad and sometimes the good. But at the end of the day they did sign themselves up to be civil servants to the community. Therefore they should act properly around civilians and carry themselves in a manner to shows that they are there to protect and serve people.

I've been pulled over many times and I just try to be as nice as possible and end the my sentences with sir. And usually their pretty nice to me back. Should you have called the guy an ass, no. But I'm sure you had lots on your mind and in a hurry so I understand. Now you never know if the cop just came from a scene where he found a 3 month old baby dead wrapped in a blanket dumped in a dumpster. His mind could be all fucked up.

One time two police officers were parked in front of our office one morning and I had extra donuts so I went out and off it to them. One of them said no and the other one took one. It was funny.

It's never a good idea to get into a pissing match with a cop. It's folly. Guess who's going to win.

And everyone has their asshole cop stories. But they also have their cool cop stories. They're people just like everyone else. Respect goes a long way with them.
