240 to the junkyard?
Hey guys. I did some searching but didn't find much. Well, I just parted out an S13, and was wondering what I should do with it. Mostly everything is gone, and is just a shell.
I was wondering, do junk yards give you money for shells, or do you have to pay them? Does anybody know how much it costs? And will they pick up? Unless... Is anybody looking for a shell? haha(yea yea wrong section). What do most of you do after parting out a car? Thanks |

I got 45$ for mine. But yeah, they came and picked it right up and I wasn't even home. Just left the money in the mailbox and sent me an email when they got back. Good luck!

If no engine exist you usually have to pay them $50 to pick it up, generally you only get money if the engine and tranny or engine alone is still attached to the vehicle in some manner, I know becasue I have sold 3 shells to ecology auto wrecking with out engine or tranny.

Agreed. Junkyards usually only buy cars if there's something worthwhile left on it, otherwise they're paying you $50 for $20 worth of scrap metal. I cut the car up and take it in to the recycling yard, a full shell takes maybe an hour to cut down into workable pieces and you'll make $20 or so taking it in.

The yard charged me about $60 to come pick my bare shell up, They had to drag it on a flat bed since it had no suspension whatsoever.
R240NA has a pretty good idea about cutting it up and recylcing it |

you could waste your time chopping it up and throwing it wherever you please, but if you want to get rid of it legally, just call around to all your local yards. if it's a shell that doesn't roll, don't expect to get too much for it, if anything. but they'll still pick it up. they'll either have a forklift to throw it on a flatbed, or they'll just drag it onto their trailer with a winch. never pay to have an old car taken away, they'll always do it for at least free, because when yards are done letting people pick off the cars, they chop them into little chunks and sell it by the pound.

Both. A sawzall takes a little longer, but there's less mess and you don't have to change tanks in the middle of a cut.
