I was just sitting here, when all of a sudden i think "Oregon Trail"

You guys remember that dont you? Back in elementary school, your class would have that 1 day a month in the computer room, and you would play Oregon Trail. Lets face it: That game was the shit. Even if you always got that message "You have died from Dissentary". And if you didn't play it back when, I'm very sorry.

Anyhow, lets be nostalgic for a second. Let's talk Oregon Trail. I would personally always be the doctor because you started off with alot of money, and if anyone in your party got sick, you could cure them. I always died though. In fact I dont think I ever got past the Rockies.

I suddenly have an urge to go buy some oxen and a wagon. Does anyone know where you can find it for free on the 'net? I've searched and searched, and all I can find is bogus "Take our quick survey and get Free* Oregon Trail", or something I have to buy.

I just thought it would be fun to think back when we were in 1st grade, and we all looked forward to computer lab day to play Oregon Trail.

I loved that game on those old Apple II computers and the floppy disks.

I forgot who I chose as my starting person. I made it to Oregon twice. Cool ending music also. I hated when I'm riding along fine, then my wagon breaks down. I love the shooting game.

I remember once, I had just crossed the Platte, and one of my oxen died. I was SOL after that. Then my wagon broke down, my wife and son died, and I starved a few miles after that.

my 6 year old mentality was devistated... It was so traumatic, I remember it 12 years later...

Lmfao, seriously, even though we didnt know what dissentary was at 5 or 6, it got the point across that it was bad. Does anyone know all the things you could die by?

there were a few versions, but other than graphic enhancements, the only thing that ever changed was the hunting game. i remember one where it was overhead of you walking around blasting bears and buffalo, then there was a really crappy looking first person one, then there was a mouse controlled one with 16 bit graphics...

and there was a glitch, as i recall, in the apple II version i always played in gradeschool, where you could sell bullets or trade bullets, i can't remember which, for an insane markup at the first town, and then get more supplies than you could load in the wagon.

Depends on your perspective. I didnt think crossing half the country in an hour was too slow lol. Still cant find a real, true to life FREE copy though.

Im sure I could go pick up an old mac for 10 bucks at the flea market, and a copy of Oregon Trail for a dollar.... but thats gas money. I want free.

It took 12 freaking years, but I finally did it. Lmfao I had me, SexPanda (survived), RonJeremy(died from dissentary lmfao) JJameson (survived... score!) Ace (died from a snake bite) and Gary (drowned)

I hope someone gets that Ace and Gary thing.

oh yeah, if you have firefox, virtualapple.com has a copy. They got other stuff too. I wonder if I can find a free copy of Amazon Quest next...

Hell yeah that game is the shit strait up. I doubt its free though, if I do find it I'll prolly have to pay. That game is a little more complex than Oregon trail. Maybe I can get a copy off the school for, oh, free.
