Hows this sound. Good, bad, ......ugly?

Just wanted to share my drag time and get some comparisons and opinions. Sorry to disgrace the 240 by taking it to a drag strip, but its about all i got around my little redneck town lol.

60 ft.- 2.2789
1/8 mile- 10.1886 @ 69.618

Yea, thats right, to top it all off all we gots a 1/8 mile track.
Anywho, mods are as follows

'97 ka rebuilt about 6,000 miles ago with supertech 10.5:1 pistons
s13 cams
aem cai
ebay headers, test pipe, exhaust, and short shifter (go ebay, lol)
nismo motor mounts
emissions and ac belt removed (if that counts)
carbon fiber hood, fenders, lighter bumpers (no front bumper support either)
I also had probley close to 100 lbs of junk in the car (tools, parts, etc.) and wheels that are about 5 lbs. heavier than stock each.
I kept popping the clutch off the line causing it to bog and shifting at redline too, which I know didnt help, since the car falls on its face after 6000.(Tach is messed up)

Since then ive cleaned the car out, done some real weight reduction, and put an unorthodox crank pulley on it and it feels like a whole new motor. I was going to go back the other day, but I went to the store to get cigs and a cop pulled me and gave me a ticket for my exhaust (took out the silencer for the drags), defective tires (put stockies back on for drags), and seatbelt (which is messed up). I explained that I was going to the drags before he ticketed me. So he writes me up, comes back over, and decides to talk to me about racing
Wow, sorry to ramble, but I just wanted to see if this is about where I should be with those mods. Mostly all I see on here is 1/4 mile times. So lets see some 1/8 mile times here. And suggestions of course. And if you must, flame away, I like a debate and can stand my ground.

Iono about 1/8 miles but that 60 foot could be alot better...im thinking 1.8 is feasible with your setup. Also, ever dyno'd it to see where the power bands at? N/A KAs usually get most of the power between 5-5.5k iirc.

Well with a pretty stock 240 (timing advanced, 248/232 cams (wich don't do much really...), rear seats removed and emissions removed, no intake, no exhaust) my best quarter mile so far is 15,843 @ 85,38 mph, 60ft of 2,262 sec, reaction time 0,633 sec

On that my 1/8 mile was 10,124 @ 68,91 mph

Also that was my first time at the drag so I guess I could improve going some other time.

Its quite surprising that with those mods you didn't got better than this.

Yea, on take-off, my instinct is to pop the clutch for some stupid reason. The car jumps off the line, but then all that load hits, and the rpms go way below the powerband to like 2k. Then, after that shitty start, im thinkin damn I gotta make up for that and run it til' redline cuz of my shitty instincts & messed up tach. So its only in the powerband for like 10% of the run. I was starting to get the hang of it til' my car decided to start popping out of gear so i called it a day.
But about the dyno, I dont even know where one is around here, so no.
wannabe_drifter, you just reminded me, the timing is way retarded right now too cuz of the high comp. pistons and also we couldnt get it to idle as low as it should when setting it so we went the safe route.
When you advanced your timing, did you just advance til you heard knock, then back off, or just bump it up a few, or what. Id like to do that since its not the daily anymore.

for what your car is...I don't think your 60' is that bad but could be a little better if your bogging. My 60's are are all between 2.1-2.2 with an SR. Most of the other guys that were there were running the same.

My best 1/8 mile was a 9.08@ 80.6 mph

Get a LSD or welded diff and put new subframe bushings or spacers if you had wheel hop issues. Also, try playing with tire pressure although I doubt your having many grip issues. And of course work on your launch, you shouldn't be bogging and try to keep wheelspin to a minimum.

I only advanced the timing a lil bit, something like 22-23 deg instead of 20... nothing major.
You should search a little bit on that I don't know much about it.

Well the car is a hicas model so its already got lsd. I know it works too as ive done burnouts and seen 2 nice blackmarks. Pretty hard to believe its not shot though as the car has over 200k miles on it. I had no problem whatsoever with wheelspin. Exact opposite actually. My old man went a few times and he was spinning of the line, which was getting better 60' times than me. I think he actually would have got better than my 10.18 on one run, but he went from 2nd to 5th (he always does that, lol) and still ran like a 10.5 or somethin.

Your 1/4th mile could be better. My damn near stock SOHC 240 with a tune exhaust and intake ran 15.9. no lsd, stock suspension. I dont like to push my car like that though. Ive only done it once. Still gotta rebuild my engine and add some goodies.

Id work on your launch, and your reaction. Id say that car is capable of mid to low 15s.

I thought the reaction time had no effect on the 1/8 mile e.t. time.

^^^Can anyone confirm this? Does reaction time effect the elapsed time? Or does it go by when you actually leave the line? Or are all tracks different?

^^^Yea, thats what I was kinda thinkin. Mabey next time i'll have better luck. Because im hearing about all these stock and close to stock KA's getting better times. Yet I can tell its much faster than the bone stock 93' coupe I just bought. Im gonna chalk this one up to my driving I guess. But if my next outting isnt much better, I might puke in disgust at all the money ive wasted, lol. Anyway, thanks for the replies peeps.
