Stereo install ~ crossovers

Hey I just installed my Infinity Kappa 62.7i speakers last night and I have a question.

With concern to crossovers, do you need to let them vent for overheating purposes? I've never had to install them so I have no idea. I wouldn't think so which is why I wrapped them in the packaging plastic to keep them safe from the elements since I mounted them inside the door just above the speaker.

Anyone know? Thanks.

BTW the Infinity Kappa series ROCKS!!! Best speakers I've ever bought and I've been through quite a few brands.

There's plenty of airflow within the door. You're fine.

crossovers dont get hot enough to need any special airflow accommodation.

It's a 2-component speaker so the tweeter is midmount. They sound really crisp and clean. No noticable ambient noise or distortion.

Thanks R240 that's what I figured, just wanted some confirmation. And yeah ifixi, I didn't think it was a hot running device just by the construction of the component.

Thanks guys.

there shouldnt be an issue with cooling, but i was always taught to never mount the crossovers in the door. It would be just as easy to stash them under the kicks and they wouildnt be getting slammed around.

are you running them off the deck or an amp?

I'm running them off an amp. As far as getting kicked around, you mean by the opening and closing of the doors right?

Yeah, it doesnt take much to pop soldering. If you are running them off an amp, place the crossovers right near the amp. since its a passive system, it doesnt really matter where the crossovers go in the chain.

Im not fam. with your set of cross's, but i imagine they have some type of adjustment on them, even just a tweet -3db or something. It would be a bitch to have to pull the door apart to get to them just in case you decide to start tweaking

air flow will be fine almost anywhere like they said and the plastic wrap is a good idea if you are going to mount the x-overs in the door. I have an 95 se that has the factory location for the tweeter, in the a pilar. My crossovers are behind the driverside kick panel and behind the dash on the other side. I know my windows leak a bit so I didn't want to take the chance.

I was so happy that my new speakers fit. The tweeter fit right in the old spot on the pillar with little modification to the original tweeter bracket.

umm, ya might want to mount tweaters right by the amps, and you shouldnt have a problem with overheating as long as you dont turn the amp way up. i melted the plastic covers on my crossovers because i did that. they should be fine by the amp.

thanks clifford, I learned about the gain settings with my last set of speakers. Popped one of them after only a couple months.

As far as the x-overs settings, the +3 DB adjustment is part of the tweeter itself. You simply twist it to the left to up the db and right to set it at 0.

Here's the set I bought:

Thanks for the input guys.

I've got an SE too and I was trying to install tweeters into the stock location last night but I couldn't get the A-pillar off. Any tips to remove the A-pillar? Do I just pull really hard or does the entire dash need to be removed?

Sorry dude, the entire dash has to be removed as well as the front bumper...

Just kidding, it's held on with 5 clips. Pop them off from the back of the car forward. Just grab and pull down. There aren't any clips in the farther parts of the diagonal.

^^^ LOL Yeah he's right. You need to follow the A-pillar trim up and you'll see it is separate from the back trim, right above the seat. Pull it from the top and it should just pop out.
