I found out the 1991 I bought, isnt a 1991. Its a 1990. I need to swap in thr D(E). SO if's and's or butt's. No SR involved. I need the KA24D(E). I am sure it is a lenghty project, but I am prepared to tackle it. Any info would be very helpful, as I am totally lost on this subject. I know this has been asked, but I tried a search and Im just no good with it.

Why do you want the DE so bad, the SOHC models arnt bad at all, if your not going to turbo the engine, then you'll be fine, jsut get a new cam, and you should erase the power loss between the e and de models

True but in the long run im sure a DOHC KA is gonna pump abit more than a SOHC, i mean its only a few more valves.... but....ya get a cam and the power diff is erased... then you have a DOHC and you get some cams and your bumped up higher.... mod per mod i would rather have a DOHC.... i like my current SOHC engine..... often thought of just building it up N/A till it was sitting around 200 horse... but..... it does run perfect and its got alot of kilometers on it... so i was thinking i could pick up a newer low milage KA24DE and swap it in... and already have like 15 more horse and a fresh engine to start.....

troo, but then you have to buy the new engine, install it, and that got to set you back a lot, cause most people dont have the tools to put an engine in at their house/apartment

Ok this can be debated for a long time about every aspect but in the long run a ka24de has usally less miles and will last a little longet then a sohc due to less strain for the power it does give and so forth. It is a good engine so dont get me wrong but like fresh240sx said mod for mod a cam in a dohc will benifit more then a cam in a sohc. You can get a ka24de for like 500.00 or if some has done a swap for everything is like 500.00.And you donrt need alot to do a swap just an engine puller it ithe biggest thing. But you can usally find one of those at a store and buy it of a place might rent it out to you.

Im sure its difficult, but if you have a diagram you should be ok. Just make sure you have your basic electric tools... strippers, crimpers, splicing dealies, electrical tape , etc. It cant be any harder than the wiring from ka24e to sr20det.... well maybe

I'm still really curious how you accidentaly bought the wrong car... I mean... Whats the issue with the bumper and did you even look at the ID tag under the hood? the one similar to what AKAdriver has as his avatar....

Not only that, but the bodies are different on SOHC and DOHC.

Here's some pics of E to DE swap off www.boostdynamics.com

check www.240sx.org, (installs). They have a write-up on SOHC turbo app, I believe.

I like the SOHC KA.

the word bought is exaggerated. It was given to me, minus sales tax on the 400$ i am not paying for it. I dont know 240s by looks too much, and the front bumper is from a 92 since his accident.

But i need to know, what is involved. I am hearing all this tech talk, but im still lost. My deciding time draws near and I need to know.

Ok all you need its the engine alot of tools an engine lift/puller aka a cherry picker. The you need to have the wireing dyogram"sp".The all there is toknow i the torque specs for everything and some ectra hands for helping out.Thats basickly all.The hardest part is going to be wireing the engine back.If you do doit then i can see if i have the diagrams which i belive i do and i can scan them and send them to you.I have a chiltons for a 93-98 240sx and altima service manual. That all realy.Plus invest in some bandages and some ointment for cuts.

So what you are asking is whether or not the swap is easy or hard? This swap is so easy I could do it in 1 day. The only easier swap is putting the same year engine in. LOL Wiring is very easy its like 10 wires near the ecu and the colors match up. Exactly what to do depends on which DE you get.

91-94 KA make sure you get the engine, harness and ECU. The only wiring that needs to be done is to cut the small connector near the ecu off the DE harness and wire in the connector from the KA24E harness. The wire colors match up. You will probably also need a 91-94 coil, not positive on that but pretty sure. Just check to see if the 89-90 coil has a differant part number than the 91-94.

94-98 KA all you need is the engine. You will need a 91-94 KA wiring harness, ECU, distributer and sensors though. Same as above except you will also need to swap all the sensors from the 91-94 into the 95+ KA as well as the distributor from a 91-94. This is probably more work than it is worth in your case.

You will also need to get a PS resovour(SP?) and lines from a 91-94 240 with either engine.

I dont get out here very often anymore so if you need more info post the question out here but follow up with a e-mail to let me know the question is out there. [email protected]

I will be putting a 97 KA into my 92 240 shortly so I have something to drive while I rebuild my 89 with SR from the ground up. I will also be doing a 95 or 96 into a 91 as soon as I find a good enough engine. (for a friend of mine) Really not all that hard if you have the space to do it.

Alan
