Sputtering would mean fuel loss somewhere.
Over heating could mean different reasons: Make sure the water is circulating evenly thru thermo, there is water in your rad, etc. Idle searchin, check your sensors and make sure everything is plugged up right, some air sensors such as maf, or other will cause it to search. Just some exp with my buddies car. |

check for vacuum leaks and boost leaks for the sputtering/idle search problem. As for the overheating, check your coolant level(maybe do a coolant flush/refill), bleed the coolant system, check for leaks, and do a compression test(maybe a blown headgasket).
also if you have electric fans make sure that they are turning on. thats where I would start. |

many times cars overheat because the thermostat is stuck shut, therefore no coolant flows outside the cylinders.. check the radiator hose going from the engine to the Radiator... if its cold after warm up.. your thermostat is probably fucked. If that seems ok, the radiator itself might be shit, check the fins to see if theres any green corrosion or gaping holes. If your car is automatic, you probably burned the tranny fluid which will severely damage the transmission. ( i know from experience).. so change the transmission fluid after you fix the problem.

when u flushed your radiator u needed to do it on an incline with the radiator higher than the motor with the cap off and just add water as needed to remove all the air.

for over heating check all your radiator hoses for leaks. especially the one for the turbo. when it gets old it cracks and you wont see why your losing coolant. check for leaks around the radiator. check the thermostat as well as your water pump. if you still have the heater core unlike me i dont have one. check the passenger and the drivers side on the floor to see if its wet and take a sniff ta see its coolant leaking from the heater core or the hoses it goes through.
