Paints effect on cooling?

I was thinking about grabing some hightemp black paint for my calipers just for fun, but was wondering if it would have a negative effect on their ability to cool.  I know the bigger issue in cooling is with pads and rotors, but if your calipers don't cool well, I would imagine you'd have issues with overheating brake fluid.  

So, can I make my calipers look cool w/out going head first into a wall?

Any thoughts?

What color are you painting them?

I doubt that there will be a negative effect to that extreme if you paint your calipers...but for some reason people say black is the best color to go with. &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/huh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':huh:'>

They sell high temperature resistant paint at any auto parts &nbsp;store for <$10.. I'm pretty sure that it works well. &nbsp;My brother used some of it on his oldsmobile and it's holding up well. &nbsp;If you don't trust that stuff though, they sell special "brake caliper paint" in a lot of magazines..I think I saw it in Sport Compact before..but anyways, they charge like $40 for that whole kit...but it has about the same effect as the $10 stuff. &nbsp;Hope this helps. &nbsp;I think I'm going to paint my cali's next spring. interesting question. i doubt it has serious effects, i mean, think about Porsche's Big Reds. they don't call them big reds for nothin.

Dave- I dont think the paint will affect anything negatively, or at least to a degree where it would be noticable. Just paint the damn things &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

and re: painting them, no, I don't think it would hurt you in any noticable way, but if I weren't going to any shows (which I'm not planning to) I would probably just leave my calipers the dirty zinc-plating color that they are. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':thumbsup:'>

I'm sure that little bit of paint will hurt anything. &nbsp;Still:
black conducts heat
white reflects heat. &nbsp;
flat colors conduct heat
gloss reflects. &nbsp;

I'm sure everyone knows this, but oh well. &nbsp;

I would take the calipers off completely, clean and sand them, then spray them with some high temp black paint. &nbsp;I don't see the point in buying the $40 kits. &nbsp;

The colors apply to convection, not conduction. &nbsp;You are thinking about the sun. &nbsp;In this case color does not affect conduction of heat. &nbsp;Painting the calipers will have some affect on heat transfer, but you won't notice it. &nbsp;Most racing calipers and Al and they are anodized which doesn't affect heat transfer much.
So don't worry about it and have fun making them not rusty

not convection (that's how your radiator works) I meant radiation, that's what comes from the sun and that's when the colors matter. &nbsp;
convection and conduction are both present in the braking system and the colors don't matter
