KA 1991 240sx KA24DE Problems/Codes

Hi, I picked up this 1991 Nissan 240sx Coupe about a week ago and it has a KA24De in it and I noticed that it ran like CRAP.. Alot of hesitation in the Engine and just feels all around like no power. I looked at the check engine light and nothing.. then I noticed when i turned the car on that the check engine light never turned on, so I pulled the gauge cluster and someone had removed the check engine light. Sure enough put the light back in and BAM Light stays on! I pulled the codes from the ECU and I got Codes 14, 32, 41, and 45. Are these common to this engine? I have been checking around the threads looking for some answers but no one is really having the same problems all in one that i have found so far. Car won't pass CA Smog with that damn light on and running the way it is.

Also I am switching to a analog cluster because my Digital Speedo & Tachometer/HUD aren't working as well.. is there a thread that explains this swap?

Thanks for any help!

ok 14(vss circuit) means you have a funky speed sensor or gauge cluster fix them by process of elimination i.e. replacement and the code will go away.

(EGR sensor circuit) 32 is a common one, check all vacuum hoses going to the EGR valve and your BPT valve they have a tendacy to crack over time and if they do then your EGR circuit will not work.

Its pretty easy to check to see if the EGR is working. Your EGR valve is on the back side of your intake mani you can actually put your finger on the underside of it and rev the engine if the rubber membrane does not lift its not functioning, be it because of leaking vacuum lines or bad EGR valve. Its a pretty simple thing to fix though.

Next up 41, If your air temp sensor is failing the car will run like shit. Fix that. Check the connections to it as quite often connectors get dirty or replace it.

Now we hit the worst part, code 45. You have a leaky injector, which pretty much means you have to replace it. Now that means spending a little money and removal and replacement.

All of the above codes except the VSS code will make your car run like shit. Fix them and your car will run well and probably pass smog as well.

OMG drift freaq that info was really valuable! anways my car is not running a code and i am sure my CEL is not unplugged (it stays on in ACC mode but not while running) , but have a strong feeling that i have a leaky injector because one day when changing plugs i saw that my cylinders had a wet sheen to it making me think that it was leaky.

The symptoms could mean nothing, and thats why im not throwing a code, but is there a possibility?

+ 1 for drift freaq. It couldn't have been said any better. Also you might want to take out your speed sensor and clean it if the wiring is correct. For the egr, I had that problem a few years back, one of the tubes in the back dried up and cracked, you just have to find it and replace it.
