Sportbike gauge cluster

I picked up a cluster off a wrecked bike for free and it doesn't seem like it'd be that hard to wire the thing up to work in place of stock, just time consuming sitting there with a multimeter, soldering iron,and service manuals.

It's off a CBR954 and looks like this:


Not exactly symmetrical or anything but it was free and it'd be kind of neat, I think. The one issue to me is the lack of fuel metering on the cluster, but I feel that something could be soldered up... Along the lines of a small digital display that takes the resistance given by the fuel sender and converts it in to a percentage of current/max.


Does anyone know if there are any stock digital style clusters on bikes that are more symmetrical, similar to the stack, hanging around?



Thoughts or ideas? Has anyone ever seen this done before? I've seen kit cars that have sportbike engines and are using these clusters, but not an actual car with a car engine.

I need another car, I spend too much time coming up with weird shit.

do it and then get kognition to send a panel to you and add a fuel gauge, boost gauge, wideband gauge etc around it

Damn, that's perfect for what I was thinking. 13.5k redline is kind of ( ) high but I'd imagine there are companies out there that make new gauge faces for these... if you see where I'm going with this.

I must say, most sport bike service manuals are fucking excellent and come with full schematics.

YOu can have a 9k rpm lay in made for like $35 to pop in there. Then just adjust it to mach. You would have a big ass 9k tach.... I think it woud be hot!!

Basically get a wiring schematic for your bike (btw what bike?)
and get the schematic for the 954, Its all the same once you locate the correct wires and route them. Make sure your RPM's match to the bike your drive.

Fuel metering? As in how much gas you have left in your tank?
Just either:
1. Open the gas can and tilt your bike straight up and look to see how much gas you have
2. I can usually feel the weight difference when my bike is running low.

the 1000rr cluster looks kinda like the stack yo.. only problem is it doesnt have a gas gauge.

For thoes worried about a gas gauge, just keep looking .There are more than a few bikes with a gas gauge on them... Most will be on newer bikes.

so any reason u guys want to do this besides cosmetics? to me it just doesnt look very practical to swap a bike tach in.. not only that but you basically fawk up ur car's title since you would be loosing the millage odometer which would be illegal. If its track only car, then I guess its ok.

Reminds me of those people who spend the time fabbing up sportbike ITBs on thier KAs.. its not like your going to hit 200hp.. theres just more beneficial/bang for the buck mods out there that would be more useful.

for regular cars, just use the regular tach

i have a STACK but when im at the track, im not looking at the cluster. using my ears

my friend doesnt have a tach
when u start bouncing off redline and u know what engine 'pitch' near redline you shift.

Pretty much just cosmetics and to do something because it just interests me. My car already has a not actual mileage title and I don't give fuck about legality of the odometer being wrong. Infact, it hasn't been registered in over a year.

As far as your second paragraph... some people like doing shit just because they want to see if it can be done. I think you'd have to be that kind of person to understand, otherwise it just seems pointless. Sort of like aero, stretched tires, and other such stuff to myself... I don't get it, but I can respect it.

My old Ninja 650 had a gas gauge... but the cluster looks like ass

anyway, back on topic. would the tach be more accurate? i would think bike tachs would require higher quality because of the range and rev speed of the engine. but the fabbing/transfer process might degrade things a bit.

the R1 setup certainly looks cool.

Good question, I know bikes usually use stepper motors for their tachs.
