I'm pretty sure he was just asking about the RWD SR, as he asked where to get one, and which is best... I think he was just mentioning the SE-R to point out that he has a form of SR currently and it aided in his decision to get another nissan with the RWD turbo form of the engine.

hello everyone, i was linked here from www.sr20deforum.com and currently own a 93 se-r. I love the sr20 motor and i am dying for the DET but i want to go about it the proper way by going RWD.

I'm probably gonna go with an s13 fb and i have some questions that i'm looking to be answered because i plan on doing the swap myself.
1) which det is best to swap into an s13?
2) does the det mount easily? what has to be done?
3) what parts do i have to keep or get new?
4) can i use the Jspec sr20det tranny or will i have to use the ka tranny?
5) certain brands of parts to stay away from.
6) where to get det from and how much(what will i need it to come with?tranny, harness, etc.)
7) links containing good swap info or writeups
8) any major issues i should be aware of on the s13.

sorry for so many questions, i couldnt find much with the search button, it only lead me to parts for sale.

Check out heavythrottle. It will answer your basics. Sport Compact Car did a basic write up on the process a few months ago. I'm sure someone can link you. After than, lurk and occasionally hit up SR owners for info and tips.

Hello and welcome
the easiest way to answer most of your questions is to use the search feature at the top. There's a wealth of info to be had here, just gotta dig a little (older members tend to flame newbies for not using the search)... to answer some of your questions:
1) which SR is "best" really depends on how far you want to take your car... as far as ease of swap, then a s13 SR (black or redtop) would be easiest.
2) I'm not sure what you're asking, but it uses the same motor mounts if that's what you're getting at. Pretty much a straight swap.
3) check heavy throttle and unstable hybrids, etc for this info
4)you have to use the SR tranny (it comes with the engine), the KA will not bolt on
5) part brand opinions seem to vary greatly by personal experience of those who've tried... the only real complaint i've heard related to headers and BOVs... figure out what route you want to take with your engine, THEN ask around about specifics
6) I can't stress enough that you should look for a full clip when buying your engine, this will assure you have all the parts needed (minus things that need to be made custom... ie A/C)
7) use the "search" and see #3
8) timing chains req replacement after around 80-100k, beware spoiler rust, leaky trunks on most s13 hatches, extreme urges to go sideways around all corners... or maybe that's just me

These are just REALLY short answers to your questions, but should help you in going the right direction. the 240 followers are a tight community with a lot of pride, if you get one, do it right, make us proud, no ricing the car, and street racing is for high schoolers. Use the search and absorb all you can

Good luck!

Like hippsleek said go to heavythrottle.com or srswap.com both the same.If you are talking about transplaniting the sr20det that is rwd there is also a sr20det that is made for the sentra as well it is the bluebird motor froma awd gtr iirc which when you get it is is made for a fwd car.But if you get a s13 hatch then a s13 redtop is gonna be chaper with a little more mileage and a blacktop s13 motor will have usally a little less but not always the truth. You have to use the jdm tranny or take alot of time to transfer bell houseings over to use the ka tranny. If you get a clip you will get tranny, motor, ecu, ignitor chip, harness etc everything need to do a basic swap.

best thing is unlike when we need to swap dets in our cars we have to have jwt retune the stock ecu to run the det on 240's you can use the sr20's ecu

No, he's saying you can use the ECU that will come with your clip as opposed to having the ECU retuned ala FWD SR.

Saves you the trouble of worrying about engine management right off the bat.

Josh: Find me a redtop s13 motor with less miles than a black top s13 motor. Do it, I dare ya

Redtops were made from 91-94 blacktops were from 94-98. I wouldn't suggest going the redtop route unless you plan on rebuilding right away. They are just to old nowadays. This is just my opinion though I'm sure some people disagree.
