SR Dry Start????

Well it started about 2 weeks ago and when i start my car i can hear the cams chatter and some knocking as in dosent sound lubricated, the oil light is on for the first 15 seconds and then it goes away and the car sounds normal. does anybody know what i need to replace? from what im hearing from a couple buddys is that the SR oil pump dosent go bad because its mechanical unless the teeth on the gears in it go bad. they told me either the oil filter collapased inside or the oil pick up is clogged or i need a new check valve or something. help please.

More than like likely the pump is going bad it common on 14-18 year old engines
check your oil pressure
Check/Pull the oil pan (make sure its not dented) and make sure the strainer is not being colgged

Sounds like you're using a crappy oil filter without an anti-drainback valve like a Fram etc.

Use an OEM Nissan filter and I bet the problem goes away and you get oil pressure within a few seconds of startup.

I had the same problem and after switching oil filter brand it has never happened again. Either penzoil or K&N are what I have been using and it hasnt happened since.
