C7 vette..

Trim Levels
Base: LT
Mid-level: Z06
Up-level: SS

Introduction

The Corvette; such an iconic GM vehicle. It's the car that everyone loves, and has a place in the hearts and minds of millions of people around the world. It's Chevrolet's equivalent of the 911, and the two vastly different cars are often compared head to head as ideological opposites. The car that can compare with rivals costing far more; .that car is the Corvette. And that's the car we had the task of redesigning, quite possibly the hardest of all the RIA cars we have done before. Our hardest vehicle, in the hardest lineup. Efforts in this lineup have culminated with, and in our idea of what the next generation C7 Corvette should be.
In this RIA, our C7 Corvette's styling follows an more evolutionary, rather then revolutionary path. Overall the car is much more emotional and dramatic, with a more planted stance and low-slung look. Things like a swooping downward character line add drama and excitement to the car, while still retaining that unmistakable Corvette look.

We followed the mantra of "don't mess with success" in hammering out the details on the C7, especially in regards to price. The Corvette is an attainable supercar, and that's something that shouldn't be changed. The LT starts at $47,150 and bumps up the horsepower from current C6 levels to 450HP. And, as is the case now, is available in a few different packages, 1LT, 2LT and 3LT. Z06, which starts at $70,250, increases the HP level to 600HP from it's 7.0L LS7 V8. A new addition to the model line is the "Super Corvette", which we have called the Corvette SS. The Corvette SS, starting at $115,000, has a supercharged version of the engine, making 850HP. The SS also adds features like ceramic brakes, something GM has opted out of the current car because of the over $10k cost. The price has been brought down though, however and it's a feature that certainly should be present on the very best of Corvettes.
Lots of debate on where to take the Corvette, both in RIA and inside GM. Some have said to take the Corvette mid-engine. That's the worst course of action because it destroys the very essence of the Corvette in that it's an attainable supercar. In price as well as styling, future Corvettes should stick to the principles that made it what it is. A mid-engined vehicle has it's place at Cadillac, but not as a Corvette. Our proposed C7 Corvette arrives around the time of the production vehicle, in 2010 as a 2011 model.

Hehehehe and they just gave Nissan the heads up to up the horsepower of V spec GTR to kick its ass.

LOL morons they could have at least keep the actual HP spec under wraps to not give the competition the heads up. Typical GM management stupidity at its best. One step forward two steps back. This gives the both Porsche and Nissan a couple of years to up the HP on 911 and the GTR.

Oh and by the way first it was copping Ferrari with the C6 Z06 and now they are ripping off the front of Lotus Elise/Exige hahahhahahhahhaha

Just goes to show you the fools at GM have lost their way.

They need to make a twin turbo Vette...just because.

Are they still using leaf springs nowadays?

C'mon, Dave, you've been around long enough to know that GM LOVES to underrate the horsepower numbers on the Corvettes.

not coming out for years and already talking import shit on it. way to go internet, you've saddened me again

they're cars. regardless of origin, they're just fucking cars. and the vette is a badass car. if you can't appreciate a badass car, you're a gay.

after all the house business is settled, my next daily driver is going to be a C5. very nice, very affordable, and great gas mileage with the stick. done and done.

they use TRANSVERSE leaf springs, which aren't the buggy style bullshit you're thinking of.

Advantages of transverse leaf springs
  • Less unsprung weight. Coil springs contribute to unsprung weight; the less there is, the more quickly the wheel can respond at a given spring rate.
  • Less weight. The C4 Corvette's composite front leaf weighed 1/3 as much as the pair of conventional coil springs it would replace.
  • Weight is positioned lower. Coil springs and the associated chassis hard mounts raise the center of gravity of the car.
  • Superior wear characteristics. The Corvette's composite leaf springs last longer than coils, though in a car as light as the Corvette, the difference is not especially significant. No composite Corvette leaf has ever been replaced due to fatigue failure, though steel leafs from 1963 to 1983 have been. As of 1980, the composite spring was an option on the C3. [see Michael Lamm external link below]
  • As used on the Corvette, ride height can be adjusted by changing the length of the end links connecting the leaf to the suspension arms. This allows small changes in ride height with minimal effects on the spring rate.
  • Also as used on the Corvette, the leaf spring acts as an anti-roll bar, allowing for smaller and lighter bars than if the car were equipped with coil springs.

i know jeremy clarkson likes to talk shit, but in reality, it's a great design with proven performance.

Where is this from exactly? It's certainly NOT a GM press release. Is this from that site that does different renderings of what the future cars of GM should look like?

GM has stated that the C7 Vette is on pretty much ON HOLD right now due to the new CAFE Regs. They also have said that the next Vette will be lighter, less HP, and have a smaller displacement.

EDIT: Just found my old thread from Dec. Looks very similiar to the rendering I posted from GMI's Revitalization In Action site. Then looking at the properties of the pics you posted I confirmed that those are from the same people. Ok, so just an FYI to all, this is not a release from GM.

Here is my thread: http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.p...02#post1685402

I am curious to see in what direction GM takes the next generation of Corvette. It seems like these horspower numbers keep rising everyday when these new sports "super" cars are released.

600bhp is a lot of power let alone the estimated 750bhp for the "SS" trim model.

I wish I could afford one though
Looks like these will be reserved for the old timers with the big bucks!

Like I said. Expect HP to go down. And the car be more lightweight. GM said that the ZR1 is probably the most powerful Vette they will ever build. The roof on the ZR1 is an exercise for GM using CF in production cars. I believe we'll see a C7 vette with a good amount of CF being used. Even on the base models.

They've EVEN tossed around the idea of...a MID ENGINE Vette.

We'll see though. I don't expect to start seeing anything from GM for at least another 2 years at the minimum.
