no, i don't agree. Gen Petraeus is a General, not a politician. the question was about the administration's authority, Gen Petraeus isn't part of the administration. it's not his call to bomb Iran, it's out of his scope so i wouldn't expect him to know the answer. and if he can't speak intelegently on the subject, he shouldn't say anything, like he did. on top of that, the Gen has his own AOR. he won't stray outside it in a public setting like that.

it did look like the Gen was about to laugh right before he answered though.

basically in a hearing about Iraq, Ron Paul asked Gen Petraeus a bunch of questions to get them on the record and asked one that he had time to answer. the one question he gave him time to answer was whether it was within the authority of the administration to attack Iran without approval from congress. the General punted as he should have.
