turbo outlet studs backed out

Driving to work today i seen my boost gauge acting really weird and feeling kinda sluggish. I took a look at it during my break and found out that 3 of the studs from the turbo outlet backed out and one of them is loose. I searched thru zilvia after the break. There was a post where two guys were arguing about the 5 bolt gasket stating that the t25 and t28 were different. I want to order the parts from frsports and get it fixed asap. I am going to get 5 bolt gasket, 5+ studs, and 5+ nuts incase i bend one or two by accident. Would getting 3 bolt exhuast gasket be a good idea because I assume that I would have to take the whole elbow off in order to replace the gasket and studs. I have a stock t25 turbo would the studs fit without having to test them at a hardware store for the pitch size? The studs that frsports sell are 1.25 pitch. I have a megan racing elbow would that be a problem? Any tips, tool suggestions, and links to diy for replacing the studs and gasket would be nice. Thanks guys in advance.

it is a bitch to take off the elbow while the turbo is in the car. there are about 2 nuts that are nearly impossible to reach. unless they are already loose, you might be able to twist them out otherwise you need to take the turbo off.. as far a stud removal, just double nut them and wrench them out but make sure you use plenty of pb or wd 40 because those atuds are old and weak. also give frsport a call, their tech personnel are pretty good.

The bolts holding the 4-bolt gasket where the turbo meets the manifold likes to back off the stud, even if you have the locking plates:

I suggest pulling your entire turbo, redoing all your gasket, and tackwelding the turbo to manifold nuts.

i agree with everything stated above, and you're smart for purchasing the new studs/nuts.

this might have happened because you don't have your downpipe bolted to your tranny.

this is a common problem because the downpipe vibrates so much, it causes these bolts to back out.

g6civcx has an awesome solution for this

^^^x2 hes talking about his elbow, not the manifold-turbo connection.

Personally, you may or may not have to buy new gaskets. The 5 bolt gasket is pretty thick, most of the time you can re-use them if its the OEM gasket. The 3 bolt, again, itll all depends on what you have already.

Yes, T25 and T28 are different, 1 bolt wont line up if you get a T28 gasket with a T25 turbo and stock elbow.

Usually shit like this happens due to the torquing of the engine to the side for the most part. Usually, getting stiffer engine mounts and adding a flexpipe in your DP fixes this problem from occuring again.
