So I finally have the cahs for new tires. A good thing, since I have 3 diffrent brands on there right now <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hehe:'>
I was looking at the RE950. Cheap at $70. They have above average tread life from what I hear. Anyone have them? I see alot of rain, and very rarely any snow. I am not concerned about noise or ride, but good grip is nice. So is a high speed rating (like it matters, I get owned all the time my the governor <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=' ![]() Thanks! GREAT!!!!..... these tires offer excellent dry traction along with wet traction, even in heavy down pours. Tire Rack's review is on the spot. As for tread life it does have average ware depending on how you are driving it could be anywhere from fast to well normal

Glad to know it is accurate. I thought all tires were a tradeoff between cost, lifespan, comfort, performance, and wet traction. This one looks like the best mix. 195-60-15 for a 1991 Fastback LE right? Jeff

I found a place with some decent prices on 16 inch tires Yokohama AVS Intermediate....(especially the rear OEM 300ZX TT tires 245/45-R16 ZR..........$64.00 each)

go with the Yokohama's. these are the best tires. little noise, great ride, sticky as hell.

Yea, the Yokohama AVS Intermediates have been discontinued so you should be able to find them for very low prices.

The way my tread/tires are wearing now, I don't think I'll be able to even keep my Dunlop FM-901s (with a treadwear of 200) for a year!
These are wearing fast... and it's not just my inside fronts! So far they've seen maybe 700-900 miles of hard driving, plus one track event. They will eventually see at least 3 track events (I hope) and lots of touge, so I suppose it's not realistic to expect them to last much longer than a year. Tire choice really does depend on what type of driving you do.

I am going for the RE950's because of their high treadwear rating. Decent warranty too. Kinnda pricey at $70.
I drive moderately, but I am human, so I 'spin em' occassionaly <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/devil.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':devil:'> I am actually going to repace my hubs (wheel bearings), my tires, clutch, tranny, and shocks the same week. ok.. i have 1995 base model S14 rims on my 1992 se coupe. i need to get new tires.. and i heard bridgestone potenzas are good. i don't know how whaide the base mdel rims are but they are 15's what tire size is reccomended... i need them for maximum grip. don't car bout other factors. ok.. thanx very much

All the 240SX 15" wheels are the same size (15"x6").
Go with 205/60-15 for dry grip, 195/60-15 for snow. The Yokohama AVS Intermediate was a great cheap street tire, but you can't find them anymore... They've been replaced by the AVS ES100. |

hey adey... not trying to get in your face but yeah you got in mine.. i'm asking a simple question.. bout 55 series or 60.not like it a dumb one.. as far as my original post i asked some people personally b4 posting and they couldn't help too much, so i decided to ask the fellow zilvians...
btw- if 60 is better than 55 b/c more contact then why not get like 70....not trying to sound dumb, but i'm just playing 'devils advocate' here and trying to understand ur reasoning |

Maybe not that big of a deal though. I didn't know I could fit 205's. I thought my stock 15 inch alloys were 195 specific. One more thing to look into. Jeff</td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'> You've got the same alloys as the SuperHICAS cars, which had 205's. I'm running 205's on the steelies! They're all 6" wide, it's no big deal. Yeah, 205/70-15's will be way too tall, throw off the speedometer, slow the car down. Plus once you get to 70 series tires, then sidewall flex really comes into play. With my 205/60-15 AVS Intermediates I never roll onto the sidewalls. I generally run 32psi in them all the time - street, track, everywhere. |
