I was wondering if thats a normal sound when starting the car in cold weather. It makes a noise like the chain is moving, and I guess when It gets in motion, the noise then stops. Its a very short noise, only lasting about less than 30 secs, but I was just wondering if its abnormal or im just panicking?

What year of 240? the sohc's and early dohc were notorious for this. If you are lucky it is just the guide and can be fixed easily. Worst case your timing chain is going bad.

dog, how can the timing chain be bad? its undestructible, its a freaking chain, and said to be a lifetime type shit, My first post, I meant to say it lasts for less than a second, not 30 seconds. I have a '90 240sx
with 70k. |

First the name is not Dog and noting is in indestructible. It is a common problem the guide to go bad and the chain to start jumping teeth. Though you are correct, the chain it's self is not a typical wear item. If you hear what sounds like tapping that only lasts for a few minutes or seconds when the car is cold. Chances it is your lifters clicking when they are dry, it takes some time for oil settled in the pan to reach the head. If it persists it may be an indication that your oil pump is going bad. Also a common problem on the SOHC.
