I have been doing some research on turbos for my engine, and i was just curious at what RPM's KA-T people are hitting full boost at and what turbo they have?
would a Garrett T3/T04E with .60 A/R HOUSING 60 TRIM WHEEL TURBINE SPECS: .82 A/R HOUSING STAGE 3 WHEEL would this be a decently quick spooling turbo with high power output?

Umm... That turbo won't be good, unless you are pushing nasty hp numbers. The exhaust housing is entirely too large.
I have about that same turbo, with a .48 exhaust housing for spool time, and a stage 5 wheel. I begin boost in the upper 2k range (2700-2900) and makes full (yep, all 4psi) boost at 3100-3300. -Jeff

Lag really isn't a bad thing.. as long as the turbo is operating in an efficient range for the engines rpm range.. than a little lag should be tolerable.. remember with no turbo, you get nothing BUT lag.. with the turbo, you get that nice rush of torque after a few thousand rpm <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='

For my KA-T project (full rebuild & internal upgrade), I'm currently looking for a Garrett T3/T04E ....50 trim, .50 compressor, .82 A/R stage 3 wheel.......ball bearing option. I think the exhaust pulses from a fully built 2.4 liter engine (15lbs boost daily driver) will be right on for a .82 turbine housing, and with the ball bearings it will spool at least 500 rpm sooner.

The main problem with a huge exhaust side like that (look in SCC mag's "Suck, Squish, Bang, Boom" series) is that ".82 ar housings are much too large for street 4 cylinder engines, and should only be used 'race only'."
Aside from that, the usable rpm range on the KA with stock head and cams is only to 6000 rpm. If that. It begins to choke a little earlier than that. You are looking at 1700rpms of power based on full spool at 4k rpm. Also, when someone mentioned that the exhaust pulses should be right to power that turbo, there is much more that you have to look at. More lag based on the manifold you run, the length and diameter of the IC piping, and the size of the IC itself, along with the boost leak across the IC. These all are factors that add to lag. Then, you also will have less compression in the cylinders to power that turbo, which will increase lag a little more, meanwhile you will get smoked by a stock 240 based on off-boost compression. I have a .84 housing on my shelf in my closet right now, but I highly doubt I will ever put it on. I'm not trying to knock anyone or their research, and if you have found different information on this, let me know, but IMO, that housing is huge. -Jeff

what turbo would be optimal for around 300rwhp, on a dialy driver(not that much boost daily but its there if i need it)
