Switch to a higher viscosity oil. If you're running 10-40, let's say, take 2 qts of 10-40, and 2 of 20-50. Only mix same oil type and manufacturer. Don't mix different brands or regular and synthetic. Anyway, with the above mix, you'll have a 15-45 oil, which will be thicker, and won't pass through the rings as easily.
The way viscosity is figured out is by adding tiny balls of rubber until you get the desired resistance, or grade. We're talking really tiny balls, that's why you can't see it when you hold up a glass of oil. So that's why it's okay to mix oils as long as they're the same manufacturer and type. |

Rings and valves are where your engine is going to pass oil into the combustion chamber. Piston rings are little metal dealys that go around the piston and keep oil from blowing by and entering the combustion chamber.
Valves of course are your intake and exhaust valves which are surrounded by a bath of oil, and if their seals leak, then oil gets dribbled into your combustion chamber from the top. To do a valve and ring job would require a tear down, but would stop the leak. If you did it yourself, it's cheap. Just cost you time. I don't know how much a shop would charge. Probably close to 1500 or so. Maybe more. |
