Can i use fuel lines for coolant and evap? Visa versa?
I was just told i can use fuel lines for coolant and the evap/vaccume lines.
Is this true? What lines CAN be swapped and what lines CANT be swapped. IE- can vaccume lines be used for pcv lines or are they the same? Can fuel lines be used for coolant? Can coolant lines be used for evap/pcv? I'm getting so many stories i don't know what to believe. Then the napa by my house said fuel lines can be used for ANYTHING except high pressure lines in fuel injected cars... WTF?! |

Unless its fuel injection hose. That stuff is beastmode.

Weird. Proper fuel injection hose is for high pressure, so it must be used for fuel. But I don't see why it can't be used for other stuff too. Problem in doing that is it's 8mm (5/16) and there's not a lot of other applications that call for that. Most coolant is either 3/4 or 5/8 at the core and below the plenum and elsewhere 3/8, vacuum is typically 1/4.

Its not the high pressure fuel injection tubing (i did get that for the fuel pump to rail however). Its the regular fuel line thats good to 50psi. The napa by my house has TONS of it in almost every size imaginable. They claim they just use that on everything with exception of the high PSI lines.
For the most part you are correct, however i found some odd sizes as well. Like the main vaccume line to the manifold- it is slightly larger than 3/8. I had to cram a 3/8 fuel line on there because i couldn't find anything slightly larger in good line(i'm assuming 7/16 or 13/32? would be ideal?). I was just concerned that the warm vapors/fumes would eat at fuel lines. I think i'm just being paranoid and wasting time/blood, but i ended up replacing basically every line under the manifold. I figured, easier now than with it in the car. |

normal low pressure line holding 50psi HA. I'd have to see it to believe it. Aren't most EFI systems areound 50-60 psi (stock) ?

Leaky Injector

I'm just going to throw out that i'm using a piece of 3/8 EFI fuel hose to run from my brake booster to my intake manifold. it works fine, it's not collapsing under vacuum, and there's no signs of it expanding under boost.
As someone mentioned, i don't think they'd have fuel hose in a size big enough for coolant. But if they somehow do, yeah i'd think it would work fine. |

the difference between regular hoses and fuel line hoses (besides the sizes) is thaat the fuel line ones are also fuel safe. they are treated with different chemicals so they dont disentigrate when in contact wth fuel. they will be fine to use with other liquids.

I find fuel INJECTION hose to be much stiffer as well.
